Captain Obvious to the rescue, now please continue with the OT, it's more entertaining ;)

It's not exactly a shocker, but it is true that not all GPU architectures age well. The GeForce 7000-series in particular ran existing games excellently but failed horribly at anything that wasn't DX9 without extensions.

"Tesla very strong in newly released games"

but what's your point? We know the 7900 GTX didn't age well, unified shaders was a paradigm shift.

Plus, thanks for reminding me, I had one of those so now need to get all butthurt about it over in the corner

Pretty much yes. As a German, it gave me a good chuckle though. :D

Topino, my point is that it's not a guaranteed thing that new GPUs/architectures will perform well in newer games. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

AMD has a better record than NVIDIA, but both have produced cards that excel at older games but crap out on newer. Fiji is a good example of an AMD GPU that doesn't handle new stuff very well.

Agreed, though I was under the impression that Fiji's issues stemmed from being limited to only 4GB.

I'm glad it's aging well. Whenever custom Vega 56 cards hit, I'll take some time to decide between that or a GTX 1070. Lately it seems like AMD's driver quality steadily improves, Nvidia's becomes less predictably good, and neither would serve me poorly in the long run.

When it came to blinkenlitze, I don't think anybody ever topped the Connection Machine. Of course, that offered opportunities for all sorts of shenanigans.

I can't read the sites and generally trust few benchmarkers outside of TR and a few established peers. So this is non-news for me. It's like going on the Kelly Blue Book forums and posting 4 eBay listings from Uruguay to tell us that your car is holding its value well.

I can't tell if the expected response was "FROM THE ASHES AMD WILL RULE!", or if they actually wanted to talk about how Vega was faring in current games. Fortunately it seems like there isn't much interest in the former, and informed discussion on the latter is difficult without knowing more about exactly what's been done in said games.

So yeah, not much happening there. And blinkenlights are more fun anyway.

Maybe. It seems to handle both Forza 7 and Star Wars Battlefront II pretty well in those charts, at -3% and +3% to GTX 1070 respectively, but is way behind on CoD:WWII presumably due to lack of RAM. Shame the GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti were not included.

On your first point, I'd say mostly they do, so the OP's post isn't news: rather, it would be slightly interesting if it was "Vega very weak in newly released games" as it would mean the drivers were rubbish.
