Hello everyone! So, this weekend I upgraded my video card (from an AMD HD7870 to a Nvidia gtx 1080). I used DDU to clear all drivers before I turned off my computer to do the change. I had to get different cables, since the old video card had mini-display port and the new one only has the large size. My monitors are both older, one with a DVI output and the other with an HDMI output. the cables are both converting to DisplayPort as well. The issue one is the monitor that is using a HDMI -> Displayport cable.

The only issue I'm having is this... Often when a full screen app (game) exits, the desktop is messed up. the task bar is in the middle of the screen and acts like the bottom of the screen. I can fix this by swapping inputs on my monitor and then back and it's normal. I'm just curious if you have any ideas.

The only time I've seen this is when the game's full-screen resolution doesn't match the desktop resolution. Then again, most of my video cards have been AMD, so I'd expect that kind of thing sometimes. No ideas why it's happening on a 1080.

See if the monitor offers an "autoadjust" function in the settings menu, maybe it's not syncing correctly with the incoming signal.

Also, take a look at the resolution and frequency settings the video card is attempting to use, the monitor may not actually support the combination that the video card is attempting to deliver.

I'll dig around again and see if I can find my extra cables, I should have an extra cable to test, just have to find it.

Defintely looks like an out-of-range error.

Assuming you were using the same adapter as with your Radeon, it's possible that the Nvidia is not recognising the display properly. Try a different refresh rate (59Hz if that's shown) or create a custom resolution with manual timing and use lower values for the porches and sync witdth. JBI's suggest that the adapter is not playing nice is probably the first thing to try, if you have others. A lot of them only officially supported 1080p60, I've had issues with old active adapters even recognising 1920x1200@60Hz before.

I occasionally get something like this when I first turn on my monitor in display port mode. The scale will be all wack such as 640x480. I turn off the display and turn it on again and then it comes out right.

This has been happening to me on my GTX 1070. It's manifested differently in my case: a blank screen that is fixed when I turn the monitor off and back on. I have to do it when I go into the game, too. It's fixed by gaming at my native resolution and disabling DSR, which is a shame because the games I play the most leave me with horsepower to spare.

Team Viewer has done this to me, if I remote in with a 1080p resolution it scales it, then when I come back home it sometimes does not scale it back to 1440p correctly.

I see that a lot with damaged cables.

AmazonBasics has a nice succinct selection of HDMI-DVI-DP cables, in the sizes/lengths that sell well.
