RX 580 problems

Wed Feb 14, 2018 3:46 pm

Ok so I had a HD 7950 and put a RX 580 in my pc. But I am having a lot of issues.
When playing battlefield 1, if I set the monitor settings correctly at 3440x1440 at 100hz, the game keeps blacking out.
Also I get flickering on my desktop when not gaming.
Using an onscreen fps viewer i see that even when just on my desktop moving the mouse around causes frames to drop below the 100hz monitor rate.
If I remove the rx580 and put my older card back in this no longer happens.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Power Color Golden Sample RX 580 8gb
i7 4770k(stock speed)
Antec HCP 850w power supply.
16gb ram
Asus Rog Strix 3440x1440 100hz monitor.

Have you tried running DDU in safe mode and re-installing the driver? It may help.

3440x1440@100Hz is a lot of bandwidth. Are you using the right-spec cables, and are they shorter than 6 feet?

That refresh/resolution combination is on the way to 20GBit/s and you're going to need at least a DP 1.2a cable to handle that, probably a short one to ensure the bandwidth isn't going to be reduced by interference.

Test it with Freesync off, too - I've seen flickering caused by bad monitor firmware that was glitchy for freesync.

I had random problems like that with my RX480 (well what I initially thought was). More of screen would not wake up, freezing on the desktop. I was on win 8.1 and updated to 10. I thought it was a driver, or something. Then one day when it went to sleep the caps and num lock wouldn't work, meaning possibly something than the driver. Put in an old HD 4850 and was fine. I think it may have been something between win10 upgrade, uefi bios on gpu/mobo.

A fresh format and install of win 10 and all strange issues went away. I also disabled C states in the BIOS also.

Doubt it is the cable. I have three different cables here. They all work on my other card. None work on this one. I thought it was the cable as well because of the bandwidth, but no luck.

Did you completely uninstall all graphics drivers and reinstall? AMD driver installs give you the option of a clean install, which is a good place to start, but even that doesn't uninstall EVERYTHING.

I went from a 7870 to rx580 no major issues and even solved an issue where I was often getting a green or blue single pixel wide line down the right hand side of the screen which in some games is distracting.
I would highly recommend deleting and uninstalling all radeon drivers and running the cleanup tool and then installing the latest drivers from amd's website.
The machine should default to the microsoft vga driver when you do this.

Minor issue:
I use fraps and on occasion it won't load at startup and gives a directx 9 error.
Closing the error and then loading fraps separately gets it working again.
This one is a known issue and seems to be driver related as well. Never had this issue with the 7870.

I ran ddu in safe mode and completly removed and reinstalled the drivers.

Did some testing. Flickering is only when using freesync.
But I still keep getting black screen and video loss in battlefield 1. Freesync on or off has no affect on this.

Not saying you should give up, but Powercolor has good customer service in my past experience. If you run out of options, it's RMA time. Let them decide if their GPU is faulty or not.

I emailed them about the issue and they never responded. I contacted newegg and it is getting RMAd.
