Sigh... was hoping for it sooner...

Nvidia is doomed!

Given 6 more months of Fine Wine(TM) I can guarantee that Vega will destroy anything they launch this fall.

Not surprising. Given the state of the market right now, both AMD and Nvidia are selling out as fast as the fabs can crank them. With the crypto-craze, gamers can't get their hands on GPUs, so gaming performance is irrelevant, and if one company releases a new GPU that hashes the other out of the water, they won't be able to support all the demand anyway. Better to stick with your existing products as long as possible. Takes less manpower to generate a new GPU every 2-3 years than every 1-2.

Absolutely, agree 100%

From their point of view, what's the rush?

This is what I've been thinking all along... Why roll out an expensive new process when you can make bank on an old one.

To add to this, there are RAM shortages that put a limit on how many cards Nvidia or AMD can make; until the Chinese get their DRAM fabs up and running at the end of this year/beginning of next, and Samsung/Hynix/Micron get their current fabs upgraded at around the same time (how convenient) that reduces the incentive for both manufacturers to make new cards; after all, usually new GPUs need more video memory than the old ones.

Since the crazy crypto miners will buy every single card on the shelves, I've wondered why we haven't seen 4 GiB mining versions of Vega 64 to move twice as many GPUs as with the regular 8 GiB version.

Dude has a point--if I was the god-emperor of either company I'd be focusing on getting the product/marketing side of things better in tune with a changing market, and roll with whatever R&D has ready when I feel a bit of market pressure.

I'm not sure it's really a delay. This is Turing, not Volta, that's mentioned.

So another "Titan"-type product for stupid amounts of money for researchers to purchase right before the end of the year (..and quite possibly their grant-money).

On a side-note:
-I'm really surprised they haven't setup a direct from partner purchase program that "*locks-down" sales for gamers, and then let's a remaining percentage for distribution through normal channels. Of course the partners would make more direct, but would still be at retail pricing.

*of course "locks-down" is absurd, but you know - something that at least attempts to limit sales through addresses, credit cards, names, etc.. Probably a rebate system of some sort.
