New DP 1.4 Monitors Inbound...4K@120Hz

Thu May 17, 2018 9:34 am

https://www.anandtech.com/show/12721/nv ... -this-year

I'm really excited about the 200Hz 1440P option, though my poor 1080Ti might not be able to use all of that headroom. I'm curious if that is a VA panel and - if so - the ghosting issues with the tech are fixed.

4K@120Hz is still silly with current GPU tech.

The table in the article says IPS.

Existing GPUs can't drive these to their full potential, but given that a monitor of this capability is probably going to still be in active duty 10 years from now, that shouldn't be the be all and end all in the decision.

(The eye-popping price tag on the other hand....)

The 200Hz 1440p option in the table clearly says VA type.

Yes, I missed that line viewing on mobile.

We'll have to wait to see if response times really support operation at 200Hz, or if these 35" panels will be similar to their VA predecessors, where certain jarring slow transitions mar performance.

10 years is quite unlikely, given how quickly display technology has been advancing in the past five years and the technologies (e.g. OLED) we have on the horizon. Also, who wants to play a stuttery mess for 40% or 60% of your display's lifespan while waiting for GPU tech to catch up?

I'd rather game at 100+FPS today on a 1440P screen with the option of up to 200 FPS as technology improves.
