RTX2070 Review at the [H]

Mon Oct 15, 2018 6:18 pm

HardOCP reviewed a custom MSI RTX2070 and found performance to be quite good for a *70 card!

But at $599, its basically a *80 card.

Remember that MSI variant of the 2070 has extreme clocks. Possible example of the apex of 2070's.

Performs on par with GTX1080 (which costs $500)
Add in price premium for freshly launched product.
Add in price premium for DLSS and RT.
Add in price premium for limited supply.

$600 sounds about right.
Keep in mind, Nvidia has no pressure (AMD) to move the goalposts on the price/performance curve.

I'm not saying this particular variant isn't 599, but the custom versions should start at 499. Just FYI.

except that was before tarrifs. And if there is less supply than demand AIBs might as well price it at Nvidia FE pricing or more.

Expecting it to be $600+ until 2019... and tarrifs probably make it still $550+.

very good/great card at $500... Decent card at $600+.

I am very unhappy with HardOCP publishing this ahead of time. My understanding is this will hurt other reviews to some degree.

Gamersnexus "refused NDA" publishing numbers at the NDA end date is much more reasonable to other reviewers/

Errr, Nvidia set the review release date after the actual release of the card? That's rude of HardOCP, but Nvidia looks like the one doing something actually messed up here.

Kyle loves hating on Nvidia. Not that Nvidia hasn't done plenty in the past to be hostile to consumers, but Kyle zeroes in on them for some odd reason more than any other company. I haven't seen other people complaining about the NDA. Maybe it's not so great, but that's the life of a reviewer.

huh?

HardOCP did not get it normally. Probably someone managed to get one out of the supply chain, probably somewhere in China or Taiwan. Or maybe just in a regular electronics store in Europe and buy/send it to Kyle before the official launch.

The NDA is the 16th, and the official launch is the 17th.

This isn't about hating Nvidia, this is about creating an uneven playing field with other reviewers. Kyle could have waited a whole day or so to respect all the other outlets who will review.

Eh, Kyle hates one everyone that deserves it. Nvidia is just a bit more deserving recently.

The review made it sound like the "in a regular electronics store in Europe" option - I don't know release dates.
