Audio problem on speakers with R9 290

Thu Aug 15, 2019 2:15 pm

Hi
I bought several months ago an used R9 290. It is working well but I have noticed that the audio disappeared (from speakers) when performing heavy tasking. Currently, audio disappear even when performing "easy tasks" as videos on Youtube. When I increase the speakers volume I hear "flies" like in old tvs.
The monitor volume is working. Unfortunately I don't have my old gpu to check it and I wanted to know if there are more options/reasons than "bad gpu" or "bad speakers". What could be the problem ?

What's your audio setup?

Tried updating the drivers?

"Disappears" how, any noises in the transition in/out?

Drivers fully updated. First it working normally and then the sound becoming "far away" when increasing the volume it can be heard till it disappears completely. "Speakers device" enabled reducing all other noises in 80%.. Test is working well. When playing other sounds, games/ movies it is dissipates

If you can, I would test running the speakers from a different audio source -- for example, if you are using HDMI from 290, you could try instead using the audio out from a TV and see if it has the same problem (making sure to use the same chain of components: same HDMI cables, same speakers, etc.) If you have the same audio problem that way, then the issue is somewhere between the cables and the speakers.

If the audio is fine from the other sources but bad from the 290, then you know it's something on the card that's the problem. You could try using a different out (e.g. instead of using HDMI port 1, try HDMI 2 or maybe DisplayPort) just in case the problem is a bad connection in the physical port.
