NVidia finally quit blocking VESA standard adaptive sync (also known as AMD's FreeSync) in their drivers in 2019. If you have a GeForce GTX 1050 or newer card, you should be able to force "G-Sync Compatible" mode aka VESA standard adaptive sync aka AMD's FreeSync on. It might be worth a Google search to see how other folks have fared using G-Sync Compatible mode with your particular FreeSync monitor model.

Your best options start at 650€ for the Radeon RX 6800XT 16GB or 700€ for the GeForce RTX 3080 10GB and go up from there. AMD's current generation of graphics cards offer competitive performance in most games. The latest GeForce RTX 30x0 cards have stronger ray-tracing performance. That may matter more in a couple of years than it does today.

Unfortunately, supply of these new GPUs has not been sufficient. Scalpers are using bots to gobble up what few cards do get listed on-line and they're being re-sold for triple their list price. :( I was able to order a GeForce RTX 3080 directly from EVGA after signing up on their notification list.

AMD GPUs are going to be short supply well into 2021. Their limited 7nm lot with TSMC is shared with their more profitable CPU chiplets. It simply makes more economic sense to allocate the bulk of the 7nm production towards CPUs. AMD also has committed contracts through Microsoft/Sony for their PS5/XSX. It is likely Zen3 and PS5/XSX supplies will ease up long before RDNA2 stuff becomes obtainable again.

Here's a relevant chart showing that the Radeon RX 6800XT and GeForce RTX 3080 both provide excellent gaming performance at 2560x1440:

The rest of that review is here:

The AMD cards have a lot more memory, may have slightly lower prices and use a lot less power (therefore generating less heat and not requiring the 850+ watt power supply NVidia recommends for the RTX 3080), but the NVidia 3000-series cards have better ray-tracing performance.

Buy whichever of the 6800XT or 3080 cards that you can find in stock.
