Radeon8500 problem

Tue Mar 11, 2003 8:37 am

Hello everybody!

I have a strange problem with my Radeon 8500 VIVO (128 MB).

Device Manager does not recognize AGP port - instead of this it says PCI (port 7) graphic card. I tried enabling AGP in Direct X9 settings - didn't help. I also tried updating drivers - didn't help either.

BTW, everything works fine, games and all, but the !message is kind of annoying!

Please help.

Oh, yes my system: ASUS P4PE (i845PE), P4 2.6GHz, 512 DDR, 80 GB Seagate Cuda IV, win XP (without SP1), Direct X9.

Thanx.

What drivers did you update? If you updated ATi's drivers, I doubt that'd help...what about hitting the Intel website and downloading the latest drivers for the chipset? I don't think the 845 family is native to Windows and needs Intel's drivers.

BTW, us VIA chipset owners have had to do that for years...;) it's nice to see an Intel mobo need updated drivers...
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Device manager always says PCI next to "Location" in the properties of your display adapter.

You can check to see if it really is working in AGP mode with 3D Mark, the SMARTGART tab in the ATI control panel, or SiSoft Sandra, to name a few.

Thank you for answers

I tried all of the above (except of tossing the card) and it didn't help. I installed intel drivers, ASUS drivers, and the rest of utils/drvs from CD that came with my ASUS mobo (P4PE). I also got the latest drivers (I mean from everybody, that was available).

Maybe it's due to XP (cracked pirate version, of course – no SP1), Direct X9, BIOS (I use to have confidence in ASUS stuff, but hey, times are changing), cosmic rays, or who knows what.

I guess I’ll just drop the case cause EVERYTHING work GREAT!

Once again, thank you all for help.

Test your card, if you get low scores then its reading as PCI. :D
Shake it to the limit!
