swapping GF ti4200's--no need to mess with software?

Wed Apr 09, 2003 10:28 am

I want to swap vid cards between two computers. Both vid cards are Geforce 4 ti 4200 128mb. One is Leadtek, and the other is Aopen. I do NOT install ANY software utilities from the card makers themselves. I only install the detonator drivers.

Can I simply swap the cards and go? I can't imagine I would have to reinstall det drivers as long as both vid cards are the same hardware.
Am I wrong?

You should be fine. I have an Albatron ti4200 but with the official nvidia dets it gets reconized as "nvidia geforce 4 ti4200".

If you run into problems simply reinstall the dets

In theory, there shouldn't be a problem if you didn't install any vendor specific drivers. Though even if there was a problem, you could just swap them back if you can't boot into Windows properly.

Though the safest way would be to uninstall the drivers first, shut down, remove the card, place in new card, restart and reinstall the drivers. It isn't too much a hassle I guess.
