Need new card,please help

Fri Apr 11, 2003 9:14 pm

Hi!
I need to upgrade my graphic card.

I was thinking about GeForce 4 Ti 4200.

I'm not really gamer(only sometimes).
But what I need is TV out(both PAL and NTSC) and feature for dual monitor.

I work in Autocad and Photoshop7 so I don't know If 64MB or 128MB.

Also I saw that some cards come as VIVO (Is that capture feature?).
I recently has TV/capture card but Is better to have feature in one card or keep it separate (graphic card + TV/ capture card).

Thanks a lot

I've been using a Chaintech NVidia Ti 4200 w/128mb and TV out/ S-Video and it's worked great so far. It's not the high end card but you can pick up a new one for cheap through http://www.pricewatch.com

VIVO means it has the standard plugs for Video in and Video out.

I would stick with seperate cards for the TV capture and Graphics. The TV captures I've worked with are PCI cards and tend to work best with a seperate AGP Graphics card. IMHO

Radeon 9500 Pro is an excellent card for gaming for about $177 (Sapphire).

GeForce4Ti 4200 is very good for older games. It is significantly less capable than Radeon 9500 Pro, but it costs only $131 (Chaintech 128MB with DVI & TV-out).

For 2D work, you might be satisfied with a Radeon 9000 for less than $70.

Does the 9500 Pro have TV capture included? Or would it still require a seperate PCI card?

No, the bas ic 9500 doesn't have a capture feature. Only the All in Wonder series does.
Xbox Live = narcon / Steam = narcon / PSN = Pontifex

That's what I thought. Thanks.

I still say, for the $$, stick with the Ti4200 and the PCI TV card combo.
Because it's not cutting edge stuff you can grab it for a good price and it's a perfectly fine card.

:-? All nVidia TVout is pretty awful although a 3rd party (pay) tool like TVtool improves things a fair bit. Even so you're way behind a Radeon TVout. nVidia's VIVO is VERY basic, what do you expect for an extra £10? GF4TI4200 are best for gamers on a budget and although they are good at other things the Radeons win out and the 9000PRO is much cheaper and not bad for gaming. So I'd also suggest you consider the Radeons, 7500 are equivilent to a GF4MX440SE but as said you get better TVout, image quality, DVD playback etc. The 9000 offers DX8 (GF2, GF4MX & Rad7500 are all DX7) but isn't any faster than the 7500. The Rad9000PRO is much faster and image quality, dual display, clock speed etc is VERY consistent across the diff manus too so it's an easy option if you don't want to do your homework (still avoid Powercolor though). The Rad8500/9100 are faster still (again DX8) and not far behind a GF4TI4200 for gaming although you do want to ensure these cards come with the ports AND dual RAMDACs for dual display as they aren't as consistent as the 9000 series. If you want VIVO ability (and more) the Radeon AIW are supremely impressive (though I've never used one), however you lose dual display on any AIW solution, I'd also rec a PCI card for that anyway.
