Graphics card dead?

Tue Nov 15, 2011 3:00 pm

I have an HIS 6950 2GB non-ref card that while playing BF3 made a horrendous sound and the computer shut off. I reseated the card and now all it does is the fan spins 100%, but no video. I heard the system post, but no video. I installed another card and my system is working. Would this be something HIS warranty should cover? Thanks.

Sure sounds like something that ought to be covered by warranty to me.

What kind of sound did it make? Is there any visible damage to the card (e.g. exploded/leaking capacitors, charred components)?

Warranty would not cover if there are obvious signs of misuse, tempering and etc. I had 2 cards replaced under warranty - 1) Buzzing noise similar to blow drier. 2) Substance leaking from the fan. But in my case both cards still worked.

Warranty should cover your card as well.

No physical damage to it. It looks fine. It made a very high pitched sound. It has been in my system since July without any issues. Wierd. I submitted an RMA, so I guess we'll see what happens.

Ok , so that rules out the possibility that your gpu might have overloaded the psu as your psu seems fine for a 6950

there's no mention of the place of purchase so I take it you didn't buy it via Newegg ?
