i need some advice on upgrading my GPU

Fri Jun 21, 2013 1:35 pm

I am thinking to replace my GPU to 590 , my current GPU is 660 , when playing Call of duty black ops 2.0 my performance with Virtu MVP 2 is 130 FPS, does anyone with 590 can share what his FPS when playing with Virtu MVP 2.0? If you have same results with Diablo III, it would be great !

I'd recommend getting a second 660 for SLI, unless you are getting the 590 for a ridiculously low price.

What are you attempting to achieve? You are getting 130FPS...what more do you need?

If you have the space in your case for a second gpu, I'd get that. If not, I'd sell my 660 and get a 780 and then keep it for another 4+ years as that's how long it will be before nvidia really improves on the underlying tech.

same thing happened with my gtx 580s, i could have upgraded, but because the 670 and 760s were so weak, there was no reason to upgrade until the 780 came out. you can get a 780 for 500 now.

*edit I take that back, last week i saw it for 500, just keep waiting

If your current system can handle it then it will be faster than your 660 in games were SLI is taken advantage of. If not the GTX 660 is not too far behind the GTX 580. Be advised it will use more power than two GTX660s in SLI. If you can wait until some price drops on the 780 then that might be a better alternative. The last dual GPU card on one PCB I had, 4870X2, was hot, loud, and had several driver issues in some games. What are the rest of your system specs?

A 780 will last for two years tops.

I agree, since the OP is not satisfied with 660 performance he's probably going to want to upgrade in that time frame even if the gains are not as substantial.

i can get the 590 at a very low price, and from what i saw on the web, it works fine with the mvp 2.0, which is kinda nice cause it gives me a slight fps boost

i've been looking and i found MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 DisplayPort DL-DVI-I, DL-DVI-D, HDMI, PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card N770 TF 2GD5/OC in a store for 370$, i checked the web and it looks like a good deal (a brand new one, not used and from a store, although i'll have to drive a distance to get it.)
