Am i the only one who just saw the R9 prices go up ~$50-$100??

280x is now ~360-400 and the 290 non x is 460-500...

No you're not. It's called supply and demand. Supply is low, so everyone is sold out. Hence they can raise the price on the remaining units. I wouldn't buy a 290/x until there's cards with custom coolers.

That is quite a jump. I would say AMD will get a handle on this soon enough if they want to keep their price/performance ratio in the right spot.

The cooler on my 7950 just took a dump. I slapped a casefan on it and it works about as good as the stock ones did. Eesh. Still, I'm pretty bummed that the coolers aren't lasting that long. It seems to be a hot chip and the R9 series seems even worse. I just don't think I've ever seen a jump like that before. The 770 can be found for a pretty fair price now...

I guess I'll just see how far my 7950 takes me. :)

I have a quad IPS setup now, so I'd be willing to look at a crossfire or SLI setup in a few months. Maybe with some christmas money...

Newegg recently jacked up prices on just about everything, including all of their graphics cards, red or green.

Holy crap, I just looked at the card I got just last week for 299 and now it 379.

The card that I bought on 11/4 for $400 +6 shipping is now $508.

Yeah I've noticed it too. This recent Litecoin and Bitcoin mining rush has made quite an impact on the cards availability. I can imagine miners buying two or three cards at a time...

If you're still mining bitcoins with GPUs, you're doing it wrong.

Is it too late to enter Litecoin?

THIS is what is blocking my new build. I have all the components in except the GPU, which is ironic because I only planned on replacing it, then found some money that would pretty much give me a new system. I was going to get a 280X or 290 and now the only interesting thing is a Gigabyte Nvidia 770 since the AMD cards are out of stock or outrageously overpriced.

Just going to wait it out.

The shameless profiteers at Newegg just bumped their prices up another $30 today. :o They're now charging 32½% over MSRP. That's pure profit.

well, the good news is that bitcoin and litecoin are crashing.
A few more weeks of massive devaluation, and card prices will quickly revert.

Those prices were never real to begin with, so that's unsurprising.

This is probably verging on R & P, but if all the exchanges have waiting lists of months, or require you to first buy the very thing you're trying to sell as "verification," one's eyebrow should begin to rise... And, as I said, the exchanges were always the weak point. All China did was say that you can't exchange it for CNY and *poof* there goes 40%.

Just looked today when I was asked for GPU recommendations... I can't believe the cheapest 290 on Newegg is a full $100 above MSRP! The cheapest 290 with an aftermarket cooler costs more than the 290X @ MSRP. Oh, and the cheapest 290X with an aftermarket cooler costs as much as a 780 Ti.

Newegg must be in heaven to have such high price premiums 2 months after the GPUs launched. :-? I had to tell my friend to hold off on his GPU purchase, he wouldn't have known the 290 was a full $100 above its launch price.

Well, people started buying these cards - not to play games - but as an investment.

So yeah, naturally the prices went up.

Not missing an opportunity to gouge the consumer a bit more before the end of the year, Newegg has boosted prices by another $10 this week. :x

P.S.: At least they are stocking the versions with the superior coolers installed by the ODMs.

I was hoping to grab a R9 290 but it doesn't look like it's happening at these prices. I feel like I got a bargain when I grabbed a GTX 780 on sale for $430.

Has the litecoin bubble finally burst?

Newegg's price gouging for the $400 MSRP Radeon R9-290 has dropped from $780 to $480 in the past couple of weeks. That's $300 of fat profit that they've given up.

I'm still wondering if their little dustup with Global Foundries is the real cause of the lacking supply of both the new cards and Kaveri procs. The timing is just too convenient and no one ever talks about it.

GloFo has never made a single GPU part for AMD, that's 100% TSMC. Issues with Kaveri, however, are in GloFo's domain.

I was under the impression they were in the process of migrating the video chips as well. I guess not.

MtGox crashed.
Lots of miners very very unhappy.
Media frenzy of bad publicity for cryptocurrency.
Suddenly nobody is sure if they want to join the fray and invest $25000 into 36 R9-290X cards, so supply can actually meet demand again.

I don't think so. It's more like ASICs are here, and who in their right mind would spend thousands on a GPU mining rig when things like this are hitting the market: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2 ... btc-24gh/1

Either way, it's awesome to finally see the artificial bubble deflating. 290X's for under $600 again, who would've ever thought that was a good deal :P

Just looked up the 7950 I got a year ago, and Its $100 more than I paid for it. Every other card I bought was cheaper 1 year later.....
