Looking for active mini-DP to HDMI

Tue Feb 04, 2014 8:51 am

Now that I have my radeon 7870 I wanted to finally get it setup for three monitors (1 - 1920x1080 flanked by 2 - 1280x1024).
Turns out you need need an ACTIVE adapter to use the mini-displayport jacks.

Anyone know of an inexpensive active adapter I can use to change the mini-dp port to hdmi?

I found some in the $30 range with gold connectors and other bling and I'd rather spend about $10 if possible.

Thanks!

Aran
I wish to see things not as they are but as they should be.

Are you sure you need an active adapter to do that? You don't need an adapter on nvidia or intel graphics to do that. Are AMD cheaping out and not putting dual-mode support on their cards?

I got a chaeap mini-dp to hdmi adapter and it does not work.

I did further reading and it appears that yes, for eyefinity to work it, must be and active adapter. :(

That's a very good price for an active adapter; I doubt you will find one for less than that.

I've had excellent results with their passive cables (Ethernet, USB, audio, etc.). I'm a little leery of their electronics though (mixed results), and this prevents me from wholeheartedly endorsing the above linked adapter.

Ok for full disclosure, I bought a HDMI switch that didn't exactly work how I imagined it. (possibly my fault for not reading the description) but I have bought a lot of iPhone lighting cables which are full of electronics that have worked flawlessly.

In either case for that price its worth a shot.

Monoprice's DP to VGA converter works quite well. However, I had problems with their mini-DP cable and mini-DP to DP adapter. They may have fixed them by now though. m
