I have 20 video files of my friends wedding, all these files are on MP4, i want to convert them into MKV. Please suggest me the best MP4 to MKV clips converter application.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe Handbrake can use several sources and output to a single file. It won't allow you to do any editing, transitions, etc, though. Adobe Premiere Elements is fairly inexpensive.

MKVtoolnix has the stuff if you literally only need to convert an MP4 file to an MKV file: http://www.videohelp.com/software/MKVtoolnix

but that won't help you (much) if you need to do any editing, the best MKVtoolnix can do is concatenate several clips to a single video without lengthy transcoding

Handbrake! It is open source, free, and produce higher quality transcodes then most of the consumer transcoders you can find.

You can also use the merge option in MKVtoolnix, also free and open source.

Both these have been mentioned above.

Edit: note -- handbrake is a transcoding utility which means the video will be re-encoded. I believe the MKVtoolnix option actually just converts the container.

hmm then i should go with Handbrake, the option of transcoding which attracted me thanks brother

What's your reason/benefit to change to MKV????????????

Remember-every time you transcode something you loose a little quality.

Handbrake is a excellent program,as others have mentioned.
If size is your objective Handbrake now also has HEVC-H265.

MKV is just a container. You're really not "converting" anything. So by using MKV its only going to be as good as the source. Really the only reason to use MKV is to merge subtitle files into the video stream, if your video has chapters, and multiple audio tracks. (All of which a standard Blue Ray has)
