Scheduler investigation won't be until Wednesday at the earliest. It's at the top of my side-project todo list, but I've got too many things to do before then that can't be put off.

Wow, that's not great compared to my Xeon 6130's. Twice the cores and ~10% slower? Is that solely AVX?

Probably scheduler. Desktop Ryzens are actually really good in CB20. There are guys getting 4300+ on 2700X.

Twice the cores? The 7301 and Gold 6130 are both 16C/32T.

The Epyc is AVX2, the Gold is AVX512 - expect that to be a big part of the difference, but there's also max all core boost - 2.7Ghz for the Epyc, 3.7 for the Gold.

Beat me to it.

It's nice to see that much of a boost for both single and multi-threaded tests from activating all of the RAM channels though!

That’s a google fail on my part. When I looked at the epic 7301 it showed the info for the 7601. Ignore me. :D

It seems like Maxon doesn't want R20 to replace R15 in popular use.

Methinks it is Microsoft and Apple strong-arming here. They want users to use their respective eStores. It is probably part of Maxon's stipulation on being about to use aforementioned storefronts.

The whole thing is dumb but this take from TPU is pretty hilarious

Luckily, it's easy to create a portable version oneself. Just install it, find it in the start menu, right click and open folder location.

Take the Cinebench R20 files and put them in a ZIP. Voila, a portable version. Now the person can use that portable version on all their own machines, for the rest of time.

Finally got off my lazy ass and did some tweaking. So it turned out that leaving the voltage in Auto or Normal meant the CPU was asking for way too much, I saw VID going as high as 1.45V, and of course the motherboard would happily oblige.

Manually set OC to 5GHz and CPU VCore to 1.35V in BIOS, which resulted in an actual load voltage of 1.28V (from VR VOUT reading off the ISL69138. Temps are now a lot more controlled and the CPU sustains 5GHz through the CB20 run.

Finally had the chance to run this for the first time. On my office's vanilla i7 7700, CPU score is 2028 cb, CPU (single core) is 416 cb, with an MP Ratio of 4.88x. Later I'll update this with results from the FX-6300 Frankenputer I just put together for a side project, along with my Core i9 7940x...

OK, I had time to run Cinebench R20 on the FX-6300. CPU score is 875 cb, CPU (single core) is 207 cb, with an MP ratio of 4.23x. That's... not great. At first glance the 4.23x MP ratio doesn't look very good, until you remember that Cinebench considers an FX 6300 to be a three core CPU with six logical cores. Between scheduling code that's probably optimized for conventional SMT designs and various resource contention issues affecting the construction core designs, 4.23x looks a little better. That doesn't change the fact that it falls behind a midrange Ivy Bridge i5, mind you.

edit: Alright, ran it on the 7940x... and I'm a little disappointed. CPU score is 5230 cb, CPU (single core) is 239 cb, with an MP ratio of 21.87x. It's running at stock, but that's well short of their listed numbers for a Threadripper 1950x. I have a feeling I've got some fine tuning to do, or that my AVX offset is configured too conservatively.

edit the second: Disabled the AVX and AVX-512 offsets and re-ran; the CPU score nudged up to 5282 cb, but CPU (single core) leaped from 239 to 438, with a new MP ratio of 12.06x. Looks like I've got more digging to do.
