A technology question about "iheartradio"...

Tue Sep 03, 2019 7:35 am

...and other streaming services.

Can they tell when I start listening to a station and when I switch to another station? Or when I shut off the station I had on because they were playing another long and boring "story advertisement"?

I kind of wish it had an exit poll for why I'm stopping listening or changing stations. "In a meeting" is a lot different than "this host is doing another boring personal endorsement".

Of course they can. You're talking to their servers and/or CDN. Your listening habits are valuable data.

Okay, that's what I thought, and that's good. I'll keep leaving them when they start playing stupid stuff.

It's just too bad that I can't leave them more often than I go to them. :P :D
