anybody know how to make one of those nifty 360 degree pictures things....is it a quicktime thing, or is there a freeware way to do it?

There are probably many ways to do it, but I think I read that one of the ways is to take a picture looking down on a spherical mirror.

I know there's probably better ways, so if anyone else knows, please share!

my canon printer came with a software called photo stich that will automatically put the photos together for you . works great . you can probably find the software as a demo someplace so you can try it and see if it does what you want

There are ways to do it with lenses, but they tend to introduce distortions. There are some purpose-built panorama cameras that expose a strip of film. But these days it's much easier using the "photo merge" or "panorama" features found digital editing apps like Photoshop and Elements. Ideally you put your camera on a tripod, using a non-wide angle lens, and take a series of shots in a circle. Some of the fancier apps can auto-merge the photos if there are overlapping elements on the edges of the images, though you typically have to do a little adjusting for lighting differences in the various directions, etc.

Any what? Just about any digital photo editing package can do let you do this; it just takes differing amounts of skill and knowhow. Both Adobe Elements 3.0 and Photoshop CS have a Photomerge function (earlier versions may have had it too, I forget). If you're looking for software that does it without any user skill or knowledge there are some dedicated tools (google for photo merge or panorama) such as PTGui.
