OMFG I got StarForce!!! ???!!! ??!??!??

I don't fn believe it! One of the four things I did today, installed FileZilla, and FileZilla Server, updated DivX 6.2.2, and played a Sherlock Holmes DVD (from Netflix), and now movies do not play!

WTF?

I am thinking it must have been the DivX 6.2.2 update that I did, since playing the Sherlock Holmes DVD on anything else results in no picture and choppy sound.

I even read the EULA for DivX, and there was no mention of third party software...

How the **** do I remove this crap?

I actually have starforce installed on my computer, and frankly I don't see what the problem is really. I have never had a single problem with it. My DVDs play and so do all my other games.

Frankly, the first problem is that they are installed without a EULA, and certainly not with my permission. They have pretty much ruined DVD's on this machine.

Now then, weather or not it ruins your experience is no consolation... I will have to reinstall windows to fix this thing.

Are you a comedian? Thanks, though, good suggestion. No, that didn't help. I think it is something far deeper in windows that SR can't help.

I did three SR's, one back to January (when I reinstalled this WinXP), and there is still no video and garbled sound.

The irony is that I'm just trying to watch a Sherlock Holmes movie.

Remember kids: Demos of games that have StarForce also have StarForce. Hell. Free games from companies that use StarForce have StarForce.

You can try manually removing the star force drivers, basically go to the device manager and choose "show hidden drivers" and look under "non-plug & play drivers"

The reason that free demos have Starforce is because, sometimes priates use the demo verison of the game to uncrack a registered/retail copy. ;)

I do have to retract my accusation of DivX: my apologies. VTNC's comment on demos also have SF on it, which after some sluething, points more fingers to Toca Race Car Driver 3, which I did indeed d/l and install way back. Since it kinda sucked I uninstalled it, and out of memory.

To solve the DVD playback issue, I installed PowerDVD and lo and behold, DVD's play again in WinDVD and WMP10. Very odd.

Yeah, I'll clear that up... if anything, DivX highlighted the problem. I believe I got it from a... a... demo. :oops:
