Youtube locks up Firefox

Tue Feb 02, 2010 2:25 pm

Every third or fourth time I click a link to a Youtube video, it locks up Firefox for a good 20-30 seconds, and the HD whirrs away like crazy.

I've installed the latest Flash player, GPU and Mobo drivers, and it still happens. Any ideas?

It's a desktop, running Vista x64.

I hadn't realised that FF had a new version out, downloaded it, tried a Youtube link and it locked up again.

I tried a few times in Chrome, and seemed to work fine. I want to use Firefox though, I prefer the way pages look in it, and it has all the add-ons I like.

Is it locking up on other websites that use Flash such as Hulu and Vimeo?

Uninstall the FF once again... Restart you PC - and install the fresh new FF (No plugins), now give it a try. Install plugins one by one and check which one is conflicting.

Hope that helps :)

Well, a fresh install seems to fix it; but I have switched to Chrome anyway seeing as it's faster, and after looking, most of the extensions I use are on there.

Bump. It's still happening, less frequently but still incredibly annoying. Also for some reason I can't get Process Explorer to come up, so I can't kill the process when it freezes.

So yeah, I switched to Chrome, uninstalled all the standalone Flash stuff and anything media-related by Adobe and it's still happening.
