Office included with Surface RT not for commercial use?

Wed Oct 17, 2012 10:46 am

Looks like the version of Office that ships with Surface RT is"not for use in commercial, nonprofit, or revenue generating activities".

Look at footnote [2].

MS adds: Commercial license options available (sold separately). See http://office.com/officeRT

Man, they just keep piling up the reasons not to buy the RT. First they reveal that it's only got a detuned version of Office (and a limited app catalog), then they price it on the high side, and now they confirm that it's only got an H&S license?

I guess we shouldn't be surprised, right?

Oh well, still have high hopes for the Pro version...

You mean you're looking forward to a tablet priced like an ultrabook?
Only, it'll have lower specs and the keyboard/mouse/docking-station will be optional, sitting on the "high-margin accessories" shelf rather than being included in the already steep purchase price.

Well we don't know what the price is yet, so I think having "high hopes" is understandable at this point. I'm also very curious to see what the reviews of the RT version tell us about those accessories... It seems as if a lot of corporations have been holding off on tablet adoption until Win8 and the hardware that goes with it comes out - but RT doesn't really count as Win8 so the Pro and similar 3rd party hardware are our best bet.
