ARod asks Bonds for hitting help

What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

It's the perfect match. The guy who could potentially be likable but didn't want to be coaching the perpetually unlikable despite his deepest desires. If this isn't Felix and (edit: Jack) Oscar I don't know what is.

Sigh. I was thinking of Jack Klugman, who played Oscar.

Or Jack Lemmon, who played Felix in the movie (against Walter Matthau's Oscar)?

well, yes, but I was raised on a steady diet of 60s reruns like The Odd Couple and Gilligan's Island (and somewhat newer but still in syndication One Day at a Time, which is why I LOVE Valerie Bertinelli!!!!) thanks to summer daytime TV when you're too rural for cable. Tony Randall/Jack Klugman for me.

Anyway, this is the perfect fit. And hey, Bonds worked with the Giants last spring and they won the World Series, right?

As if Cashman and Junior Steinbrenner would ever let ARod have that pleasure.

I watched One Day at a Time in the original run. I had many bad thoughts.

We'll see what happens this spring. The Yankees may not contend with all the rotation question marks (Sabathia, Tanaka, etc., etc.) but if they do, and if A-Rod is a halfway decent hitter, they're not going to cut him just to pay him to play for someone else. Part of me dislikes the Yankees so intensely that it'd be fun to watch them win if A-Rod is a big part of why.

As a Yankee fan from NY, I hope the Yankee organization either pays off A-(limp-w/o-the-juice)-Rod to get rid of him, or benches him no matter what. They/we need to move on, and 3rd base isn't their biggest problem.

This lifelong Yankee fan agrees 100%.

Won't he DH? Headley seems like the near-term everyday 3B.

When was the last time ARod had a clutch hit? I vote no.

I agree. Signing him was as much a "message" as a "back-fill".

Probably, but I can still see him whining about wanting to start in the field every day. I'm just over it all and want him gone. Next few years are going to be a tough stretch anyways, so get it over with.

Pitching Pitching Pitching. I don't think Cashman quite groks the importance of that.

Whereas I see it as a common Steinbrenner failing. Hit enough homers and who cares about pitching. Of course, I started watching NYY day-to day back in the mid '70s.

My most memorable/fun games have had both teams scoring in the (near) double-digits. The "Boston Massacre" comes to mind. Off the top of my head, it didn't seem there were quite as many high-scoring games last year, save the odd blowout.

Edit: Oh, and +1 on the Steinbrenner failing(s).
