Premiere League doings

Sat Oct 24, 2015 3:11 pm

WTF has happened to Chelsea? I'm not a fan (Gooner here), so I'm not complaining, but to see Chelsea 5 points from the drop zone just doesn't register.

Heh, today was hilarious in the chicken run watching Chelsea lose the plot -- they got thoroughly outplayed (at ours, where we'd lost pathetically to Leicester and Bournemouth) and won themselves only 7 yellow cards and 1 red on the pitch, and also both their manager then the first team coach got themselves sent off from the dug-out.

Can't be long before Mourinho gets the sack :D

Edit: gz on going top, even though your win pushed us down to third.

Strange, Man Utd and Liverpool also had pretty big dips in form, but you could maybe explain that as Ferguson/Suarez leaving...

There weren't too many major changes to the Chelsea squad from last season right? Maybe they are missing Kompany, and Terry is no longer good enough at this level?

I haven't seen their games recently though, so I don't know what exactly is happening on the pitch.

And now even the Red Shite can beat Chelsea.

I love it.

Oi, I watched the Stoke City/Chelsea match. Chelsea didn't not win; they lost.

I love it. Chelsea now 3 points from the drop zone, yet they keep Mourinho. Not a head coach in US football, be it pro or top-level college, that keeps his job after such a disastrous start being sitting League champion.

And to lose to AFC Bournemouth, who thus escapes the drop zone at Chelsea's expense.

At the other end of the table, what are the odds on Leicester City winning the league this year?

Edit: I'm rooting for them to do well, I dislike chequebook football. It shouldn't be possible to buy trophies.

Same as the odds of no injury to Vardy and their stupidly low injury rate persisting for the rest of the season, I'd say 20/1 ish.

It's theirs to lose, but they need hella luck... it's kinda Arsenal's to win, and possibly also Man City's: both need to get players back and have them stay fit, and possibly buy a couple more in January to push through to May (if they're still top 3/4 by then). Man U have an outside chance, with Spurs as real outsiders -- this group have already broken away, so it's between them unless things change by New Year.

Everyone from West Ham (maybe Spurs) down is already out of the title running; everyone from Chelsea down is in real relegation danger

AFC Bournemouth.

First-ever year in the Prem and in the space of 7 days they've beaten Chelsea and Man U. It's hard for newly-promoted clubs to stay out of the drop zone, but I'm pretty sure that these are 6 points that no one expected.

EDIT: Leicester City going through would be the enema the Prem has needed since the 1992 breakaway.

... and Jamie Vardy's goals have given Leicester more points than Chelsea, Swansea, Narch, Sunderland or Villa.

He has more league goals than Stoke or Villa, and the same as Swansea.

... and Rivad Mahrez is third in the goalscoring table on 11 so far.

Leicester would be 14th if you could wipe out Vardy's contribution, 13th if you could nullify Mahrez's. Take away the goals from both and Leicester would be second bottom on 9 points.

Oi, first time in my life I've rooted for Chelsea.

I posted that not more than 10 seconds before Kane scored the first. I shut that browser window in disgust, then saw on ESPN that it was 2-nil. Was shocked when I got home to see that Chelsea had equalized and put the Foxes through.

Cinderella will be partying tonight. Things like this are necessary to beard the Prem elites and give the rest hope.
