I see a trade to the Eagles in his future. Chip Kelly, this is your running QB!

Don't count out Dallas. Jerry Jones loves the guy, and wanted to take him last year instead of Zack Martin. He probably would have, too, if the entire rest of the organization (including his own sons) hadn't threatened to mutiny. Tony Romo is 35, and if Jones can get Johnny Football away from Cleveland for even a half-decent price...

If the Bears don't have that beat, they've gotta be pretty close. In the time I've been alive, I've seen maybe a couple good seasons out of Jim McMahon, a couple good seasons out of Erik Kramer in the mid-90's, and a couple seasons of slightly above-average play from Jay Cutler. Aside from that, it's been a continuous revolving door of garbage, going back decades and decades all the way to the 1940's.

For whatever reason, a handful of teams get exceptionally lucky with QBs, and land back-to-back hall of famers. Then you've got teams like the Bears and Browns who spend probably 10+ first round picks on QBs over multiple decades and miss on ALL OF THEM. This, through multiple front offices, coaching staffs, and supporting casts. I don't get it.

What a train wreck. Out of that whole list, there's only about four who weren't complete garbage (McMahon, Harbaugh, Kramer, Cutler). Of those, McMahon and Kramer had about 2 healthy seasons each, and Harbaugh had maybe 4 (though he was just "okay"). I guess that makes Jay Cutler the best Bears QB at least since the Super Bowl era.

Dave Krieg had much better career stats than any non-current QBs on that list, but the vast majority of Krieg's success came after his one season with the Bears.

And Greg Landry had some good years with the Lions before going to the Bears.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

I vaguely remember Dave Krieg, but I think it was more towards the end of his career, and only a very short stint. Greg Landry was before my time (of watching football at least).

It should be sobering for the Bears organization to look at that list. I still don't get how some organizations are able to pull back-to-back HOF'ers out of thin air, while others go 0-for-35 after multiple top-10 picks and blockbuster free agent trades. Even if you assume it's just a roll of the dice, those are almost impossibly bad numbers.

Rarely have I seen someone work so incredibly hard at effing up their own life.

If you ever watched him play in college, he seemed like a bundle of nerves most of the time. Maybe that sort of high-intensity personality lends itself to drug and alcohol abuse, but all I can think of is "Stupid, braindead, spoiled s***head" - and that's coming from a fellow Aggie.

Mike Tanier wants you to feel sorry for this millionaire ruining his life. Has he drunk or snorted up the whole $4.3 million that he got from the Browns yet?

We don't know how many millions he got from Nike before they finally decided to cut their losses.

It looks like the media has their new Tim Tebow. Just like Tebow, this guy doesn't even play in the NFL anymore, yet interviews with his high school coach, 2nd cousin, and a guy who lived down the block are grabbing top headlines in national news outlets.

God I hate the media.

My girlfriend always looked forward to every opportunity that Manziel got to play for the Browns. One time she watched the Bengals @ Browns game (through NFL gamepass) on her own and became super worried whenever he played since.

She loved the Snickers commercial and kept wondering how much the company lost on that endorsement deal. Any information on the financial effects or negative branding experienced? Was there a clause in the contract?

Sorry for bumping a Johnny Football thread...

https://www.tmz.com/2019/02/27/johnny-m ... -cfl-team/
Johnny Manziel has been cut by the Montreal Alouettes and BANNED from the entire Canadian Football League after league officials say the 26-year-old violated the terms of his CFL contract. Alouettes general manager Kavis Reed also issued a statement saying, "We are disappointed by this turn of events. Johnny was provided a great deal of support by our organization, in collaboration with the CFL, but he has been unable to abide by the terms of his agreement. We worked with the league and presented alternatives to Johnny, who was unwilling to proceed."

https://www.cbssports.com/aaf/news/john ... o-memphis/
Johnny Manziel has signed a player agreement with the AAF and will join the Memphis Express, according to a release from the Alliance. "We are pleased to welcome Johnny Manziel to Alliance of American Football, which we've always described as a league of opportunity for talented players to launch or revitalize their pro football careers," said Head of Football Bill Polian in a statement. "We completed extensive background work to determine whether it would be appropriate for Johnny to play this season, and after consulting with many people familiar with his situation, we concluded that it would be good for him to resume his pro football career here at The Alliance."

Memphis, which currently has the lowest win percentage in the Alliance, had the first opportunity to get Manziel after the Commanders released his rights. "When I took this job as general manager of the Commanders there were foundational experiences from my career as a player and as a broadcaster that I would not deviate from," said San Antonio general manager Moose Johnston in a statement. "There were also things that I would have to learn from my experience on the job. One of the most important things I have already learned is when there is an opportunity to get better … you get better. The challenge is finding the balance in what I know and what I have learned and finding the best solution to get better as a team. I truly believe that the moves necessary to add Johnny to our roster do not make us better at this time.

Maybe at this point he's going for the record of "Player cut and banned from the most separate football leagues"?

From what I read he was released because he failed a drug test, but not in the way most would expect. He was allegedly contractually obligated to be screen for bi-polar medication. Supposedly he wasn't taking it and was cut. So, in a strange turn of events, he was fired for NOT taking drugs.
