TR Baseball 2016

Fri Feb 12, 2016 9:35 pm

Pitchers and catchers roll in next week, so it's time to pop some greenies and get this going for another year. Yahoo has just sent invites to all of last year's crew, so please respond before I offer this to anyone else.

Same rules as last year unless a majority want something different.

Draft is Friday, 1 April 2016 at 9:30PM EDT/6:30PM PDT/01:30 ZULU.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

OK folks, I've got 5 teams registered, 3 teams from last year that haven't responded, and others wanting in. The 3 from last year need to either sign up or let me know otherwise. Re-invites sent to the 3.

I hope to do better than last year where I placed 6th out of 8.

I also need a better team name, since that traitor is wearing North Side blue this year. (edit: Piscotty & Meatballs it is)

OK, open invite time. We've got 5. We need a minimum of 8. It's weekly head-to-head. If you want in, PM me an e-mail addy for the yahoo invite.

I don't want to shut this down but if it's just 4 or 6 teams it really doesn't make much sense.

Sure, this is in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, but it could realistically be about pretty much any team. As the start of the season approaches, this is a fun read: Baseball Me

Only 6 teams, but we're still going through with this right?

Yep. They'll be loaded teams but hey, they'll be equally loaded.

After the final chapter in my latest cellar saga, I might make some poor draft choices. Please feel free to inform me after I've made the choice.

I had the over on the over/under 10 games before the Cubs experienced a debilitating injury. Never want to see a young stud go down, but I'm not feeling too bad about Kyle Schwarber being in the same division and all.

My TR team sucks ass. My ESPN team that I've had since the early 90's is in first but it also sucks ass - every day I look in and say "wtf, I'm still in 1st"

Oh, the sweetest words ever heard by a life-long Yankees fan. ARod is being promoted to "adviser". It's the one contract they couldn't move and the one contract they'll have to pay, but he can no longer damage NYY at the plate or in the field. His pursuit of home run plateaus (and the associated million-dollar bonuses) stops this coming Friday.

It's clear that ownership gave Brian Cashman the leash to do what has needed to be done for decades now.

Can you give more details? Did they essentially "fire" A-Rod? I was shocked hearing on the radio of the midseason retirement coming so suddenly. No 700 HR when he's 4 short is also interesting.

There has to be some sort of buyout going on.

Joh Heyman basically confirms it's a buyout and a way to get him off the roster. http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/inside ... kees-went/

Congrats to STIFFIE and Piscotty & Meatballs who overcame finishes at the bottom of the regular season standings and a full playoff slate to take 1st and 2nd place, respectively.
As with real baseball, the playoff sprints are a very different thing from the marathon of the regular season, and it's never over until it's over.

Stiffie gave me a thorough pounding, but some of my late-season additions (like Kyle Hendricks, Alex Reyes, and Alex Bregman) gave me a shot in the arm towards the end of the year, and some of the other guys that had been turds previously (David Price and Jose Abreu, notably) finally turned it around. Congrats to Stiffie!

Everybody's fired! Robin Ventura! Walt Weiss! Dave Stewart! Chip Hale! But not you, Tony La Russa, we're still trying to figure out what to do with you.

I'm going to miss Dave Stewart, but only because I enjoy watching trainwrecks and foot-in-mouth disease from a distance. He just made quote after quote that suggested he really knew less about building a team and evaluating players than a lot of people who don't even work in the game. He called the 2016 pre-season projections for a 78-win D'backs season (which was pretty much the consensus among the analytics-oriented sites) "a joke"; given that the team actually only managed 69, maybe he was right but not quite in the way he meant.

A couple things just did not work out for the Dbacks this year. Shelby Miller was an unholy mess. I mean, the advanced metrics have never been too kind to him—he doesn't strike a lot of guys out—but he was far worse than career projects suggested he would be. Zack Greinke is not living up to his deal, but that's not on Stewart. That's on Ken Kendrick

6 years at like 35M each for a guy who was going into age 32 season when the team itself was not going to contend? Bad idea. The other stupid deals (Dansby Swanson! For Shelby Miller!) were absolutely on Stewart and La Russa.

Speaking of quotes: "Quite frankly, I've got better things to do."

I wonder how long he felt that way.

Confession time. I haven't checked the standings in at least a couple months. I figured, why bother with a 5th place team. I just hit my team and made sure I had my starting pitchers in the lineup and no injured guys active. Then every couple days I'd check the wire to see if anyone was available that was better than what I had. I didn't realize I was 1) in the final and 2) winning until the 2nd to last day of the season.
