The last thing Formula 1 needs right now is a repeat drivers champion. I take great joy in seeing Lewis Hamilton struggle this year.

The next thing that needs to be dealt with is the departure of Bernie.

Hamilton also picked up his 2nd driving reprimand for missing the bollard in the turn 2 run off area. 3 driving reprimands in a season is an automatic 10 place grid drop, anyone want to bet on when that will happen?

The problem is with 1 Mercedes always out of contention the winner of every race is a forgone conclusion and there is never a battle for the lead of any races, since realistically without mechanical problems Mercedes is the only team that can win. The racing behind that has been fairly good this year though. Maybe some day we will actually get multiple teams with a chance of winning.

It's likely he will have at least one engine penalty some time this year too with how fast they seem to be failing on him. It's a long season but without some major problems for Rosberg it's going to be hard to catch up.

I was a bit confused when the commentators said that Hamilton had committed a blue line violation.

If Vettel wouldn't keep getting qualifying grid penalties he wouldn't have to joust with Kvyat.

Aside from Kvyat's punting Vettel into the wall after two collisions in the first three turns, I was most surprised to see Red Bull put the very slow "medium" tires on both of their cars during the resulting safety car period. The NBCSN commentators had told the viewing audience at least four times in the previous half hour that no-one wanted to run the medium tires at this track. Ricciardo and his team had selected ten sets of super-soft tires for the race, and had only the minimum of soft and medium tires on-hand. How did they miscalculate so badly in the heat of the moment after weeks of planning to run the softest tires available?

I wonder if they were already planning to swap Verstappen/Kvyat before the Sochi incidents, but were just waiting till after the Russian grand prix since demoting a Russian driver probably wouldn't be great for PR. *puts on conspiracy hat*

Steward's document #33 says that neither Nico nor Lewis was at fault for crashing ≈$15,000,000 worth of Mercedes automobiles on the first lap. Maybe the F1A decided that having a team debrief with Dr. Zetsche present was punishment enough.

That was the right decision for the stewards to make.

Stewards? Yes

Mercedes? They need to sit pouty-boy down and tell him that his belief that he's "Team #1" and all that he thinks comes with it (like Nico just getting out of his way) is simply wrong. Whiny little pissy bitch.

Post race, during the Sky Sports F1 interview, Hamilton apologized to the team. While I have no love for him I respect what he said and how he has acted post incident.

BTW, I fracking love the Sky F1 coverage. Prior to this year my TV provider had always gone with BBC coverage.

NBCSN preempted the usual post-race coverage to bring us live English Premier League soccer games on multiple channels. A quick blurb referred us to the web site.

Thanks for posting that info.

Look at the low top speed of the Toro Rosso. That chassis must be amazing.

I've noticed that the Manor cars have consistently had some of the highest trap speeds this season, yet they have by far the slowest lap times. Apparently, the other teams are adding more drag and using the downforce generated to get around the corners quicker.

Given the closeness of each driver to their team mate in those speed traps, it's likely they're mostly topped out at the rev-limit, implying that the lower speeds are closer gearboxes for better acceleration in Monaco's twisty bits.

If it's not that, it'll be because the Toro Rosso cars have been configured for the most downforce today (at the obvious detriment to top speed and acceleration at higher speeds).
