The one true campus upheaval that captured everyone regardless of politics.
Fall. 1982 (neither Swedes, Mexicans, nor moose were involved in these credits, and noone was bitten). My team had won a place in the newly-expanded 1-AA championship bracket. Our then-President (George Langdon, a Yalie) announced that Colgate would honor the Ivy League tradition (I've never seen Colgate in the Ivy standings) and not take part in the 1-AA playoffs as playoffs were beneath "true academic Universities".
Campus went bug-nuts. Langdon's multiple effigies suffered all of the really ugly mediaeval tortures (at least the ones that weren't burnt on sight). He backed down within 24 hours.
Colgate's true issue with "College Football" is 1932, when the only bowl game was the Rose Bowl. Undefeated, un-tied, un scored-upon, un-invited. My maternal grandfather was a Colgate senior during that travesty.
