The light rain over Silverstone let up towards the end of Q1. Fernando Alonso charged out on slicks to set the fastest lap as time expired. It was a pointless display of bravery, since he already had 30 grid spots worth of penalties coming for new Honda power unit components (including the eighth turbocharger out of four allowed), but it was entertaining.

I am very happy Max finished this race at long last. He had a good fight with Sebastian at the beginning of the race.
Also Daniel and Valtteri made a good race obviously because they started at the back. For the rest it was a bit of a chuchu train.
Silverstone is a great track and its very spectacular to see the cars flying through the corners, so it makes up for the lack of track action.
But we are half way now and I fear it is gonna be a loooong second half.....

It is absolutely appalling that Lewis did not bother to attend. It's his home event for goodness sake! A slap in the face to his fans and not worthy of a former champion.

I don't think Lewis's fans like him because he attends at a car show in London but because he kicks ass on the track, wins races and championships(whether it is because of his car or driving skills(or both)).
They probably liked it for him to be there, but were mostly there for the spectacle.
If floating his boat is his best way to prepare then he should. When he stops winning races they won't care less whether he attends at the F1LL.

Silverstone, Canada and Spa all tend to be good races. Next up we have the Hungaroring which never features much overtaking.

The problem is with the car aero, they slide too much and destroy the tires when following. Ross Brawn is a very smart cookie, glad he's in charge and he will not jump to stupid solutions like Bernie did. It may take a little while, but I trust them to come good in the end.

Get ready for a big change to the cars' looks for next year, as FIA has just approved/mandated the Halo.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.............

What's next? Bumpers. Fully closed cocpit? Maybe just copy LMP1 cars. Or let the racers pedal the cars to reduce speed and make it more "fair"

Hopefully they cancel it

As great as he was/is, his physical limitations will prevent him from returning. Dunno why Renault is presenting him as a potential next F1 driver. I hope they are fair to Kubica about it, or does he speak in the same tongue.

He was faster than Sirotkin in the 2012 car, so it seems that his physical limitations aren't holding him back too badly.

This is why they want to run him in the current car, which can only be done on official test days. They want to see if his physical limitations DO actually hold him back or if he is still a mighty competitor like he was before his accident. They weren't an impediment in the 2012 car.

I would consider it a major achievement if he can be competitive in F1 again. It is of course already a big achievement and a sign of perseverance to be on this level of competence.

The first McLaren double in Q3 and only their 4th appearance in Q3 all season (Alonso in Spain, Vandoorne at Silverstone).

EDIT: FIA's page on Monaco qualifying was down, so I went from the lap chart. Both Button and Vandoorne made it to Q3, though Vandoorne didn't record a lap time in Q3.

Think about Paul Di Resta's weekend.
The phone rings. It's SkyTV. "Martin Brundle is sick. We need you to fill in for him commentating on the Formula 1 race in Hungary." "'Okay, I'll be on the next flight to Budapest."
After a couple of days of his TV gig, Di Resta's phone rings again. It's Williams. "Felipe Massa is sick. We need you to fill in for him driving in the race."

This was only the second race of the season that both of the Honda-powered McLarens were running at the finish. Sure, the fastest McLaren was a minute behind Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull, but that was seconds ahead of Toro Rosso, Force India, Haas, Renault and Williams and a minute ahead of Sauber. Fernando Alonso even set the fastest lap on the last lap of the race.

This was only the second race of the season that both of the Honda-powered McLarens were running at the finish.

And both were in the points for the first time this season.

It should be a driver based option.

Kubica confirmed as driving in the Hungary test. Things keep moving forward for a potential return.

As great as he was/is, his physical limitations will prevent him from returning. Dunno why Renault is presenting him as a potential next F1 driver. I hope they are fair to Kubica about it, or does he speak in the same tongue.

Obviously it is not as big an issue as you imagine. This is not a PR stunt.

It was a surreal weekend.
McLaren were "best of the rest" - faster than all but Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.
Both Honda-powered cars finished in the points, including Vandoorne's first point of the season.
Lewis Hamilton honored a deal and yielded a position to his team-mate.
Max Verstappen accepted responsibility and apologized for crashing into someone on the first lap.
These aren't things that we're used to seeing in Formula One in the past few years.
