It was a good show by McLaren, both cars finishing and both in the points. Hmmm what's next, Honda getting better at making its engines??? For the sake of F1 lets hope so.
Good, Lewis actually followed a team order to give the place back after five laps, a welcome change there.
As for Max Verstappen apologising, hmmm, guess he knew the team would give him a bollocking for crashing into his team mate. Ricciardo wasn't impressed with that either, obviously.
Hopefully that was just an aberration and not a Kvyat again!
Second half of the season will be very interesting, well let's hope so.

It was a surreal weekend.
McLaren were "best of the rest" - faster than all but Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.
Both Honda-powered cars finished in the points, including Vandoorne's first point of the season.
Lewis Hamilton honored a deal and yielded a position to his team-mate.
Max Verstappen accepted responsibility and apologized for crashing into someone on the first lap.
These aren't things that we're used to seeing in Formula One in the past few years.

Yes surreal is a great way to describe it. It definitely wasn't action packed by any stretch but it was all a bit bizarre. Mclaren clearly have a good car if they can do that well with a Honda. Just imagine if they can get a decent engine next season. Right now Alonso's talent is being wasted but Martin Brundle is adding some weird drugged up spin to that fact. Who would have thought one of the only passes in a race would be a Mclaren overtake?

Re: Formula One 2017

Spa this week and Monza next week are the two fastest tracks on the Formula One schedule. Shouldn't power be a significant advantage at these tracks?

The six-way battle for the mid-field is very close, but the three top teams (Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull) are more than a second per lap faster than Renault, Force India, McLaren, Haas, Toro Rosso and Williams, while Sauber is 3 seconds per lap slower.

I was impressed to see Vandoorne and Alonso cooperating together up the long straight in Q2. Will Buxton's story about why Fernando Alonso lost power during Q2 was surprising. It was a software programming error. Because Alonso, driving at the top of his game to try to get into Q1, took a corner flat out rather than lifting, the car's software did not acknowledge that he had been through the corner and did not allow energy to flow from the battery to the electric motors as he exited the corner onto the straight.

Rumours are strong that McLaren are going to Renault engines and both drivers will stay with the team, expected to be announced in the next day or so.

Apparently the powers that be want to keep Honda in F1 so Toro Rosso may get Honda engines. I can't see why Honda would stay, their F1 engines have been low power and unreliable, the exact opposite of what they want to portray for the road cars.

Also strong chance that the grid penalties for power units will be done away with very soon after the farce that was the Monza grid. Maybe replaced by something like loss of Constructor's Championship points or fines to the teams (to then be passed on to the other teams) to stop them from bolting a new power unit in every session.

Porsche is considering a return to F1 for the 2021 season. But really, how long before F1 will be passed by FE. Will engine(motor) make still matter then or are battery or energy storage manufacturers battling for the reign in auto sport. Silly thing is we/they will, partly, be driving on coal energy again.

Silly season has gotten rolling with a 3-way trade involving McLaren, Toro Rosso and Renault. McLaren will trade Honda engines and a pile of Honda sponsorship dollars to Toro Rosso for their Renault power, which will keep Alonso at McLaren. Renault will take Carlos Sainz from Toro Rosso to replace Jolyon Palmer, making room for Pierre Gasly to join Toro Rosso.

There are always rumors, of course. I don't believe that the rumor of Honda putting Nobuharu Matsushita into a seat at Toro Rosso is very credible. Nor do I believe the rumor that McLaren would make their own power plants.

I find it interesting that Gene Haas has said that Ferrari hasn't offered him enough cash to put Charles Leclerc or Antonio Giovinazzi into a Haas car.

Why not? They've got a pedigree.

And yes, Can-Am is my default answer to anything in racing. It was the single shining moment when the pursuit of lunacy was not an option.

Red Bull may be forced into a switch to Honda engines for 2019, with current partner Renault working to end its supply deal at the end of next year. If the Renault split is confirmed the news will be of considerable interest to Red Bull's drivers, with Daniel Ricciardo's contract expiring next season and Max Verstappen believed to have a performance-related clause to end his deal, which currently includes the 2019 season, early. The likelihood is they will now accelerate the process of looking for alternative seats, with opportunities currently available at both Mercedes and Ferrari beyond 2018. Longer-term, Red Bull remains linked to the potential arrival of Porsche in 2021, which could mean that its deal with Honda lasts for just two seasons.

Well it's taken 10 days but confirmation McLaren and Torro Rosso swap engine suppliers. Thrown in to the mix is Sainz to Renault and Red Bull being given notice that Renault will withdraw their engine supply after next year (likely pushing them to Honda).

That could really put the cat among the pigeons in the driver market for next year if Ricciardo and Verstappen see useless engines coming their way. There are a lot of drivers on 1 year contracts at the moment, not that a contract in Formula 1 means anything more than how much money you have to pay to make it go away

EDIT:
Forgot to mention, Kubica was under contract to Renault for those tests he did. Last one looked decent speed but signs of fatigue. He asked to be released from the contract, either he is giving up or he now knows how much more he needs to train and a possibility of going to Williams to let Massa retire. Williams need an older driver with their Martini sponsorship and an experienced driver to help Stroll with setup.
