Super Bowl LI

Sat Jan 28, 2017 9:10 pm

I find the proposition bets to be humorous.  The odds are expressed as - 170 = wager 170 dollars to win 100 dollars or + 1500 = wager 100 dollars to win 1500 dollars.  Of course, there are degenerate gamblers who take these very seriously.  For a gambling addict, the Super Bowl represents the last chance to get a fix of football gambling until the next season begins in the Fall, or their last opportunity to make the big score that gets back all of the money that they lost on (mostly illegal) gambling during the season.  From SB Nation:

Two run plays (or not run plays, really).  Awful, awful playcalling in the 2nd half by the Falcons.

The Falcon's Defense seemed nearly prescient in the first half.  Not just knowing the Patriot's plays, but seemingly knowing how it would "enfold".  I'd swear that seeing that ball striped from the Patriots looked rehearsed.

You had them. You had wrestled the Evil Empire to the ground and had extinguished it. Then you gave up.

I so wanted to see the Patriots lose and, on the cusp of it actually happening, the Falcons disintegrate.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

This was not a win by the Patriots but a complete and total self destruction by the Falcons. One more score, anywhere in the second half -- touchdown, field goal, even a safety -- was all the needed, but no! If the team that showed up to play the first half had showed up to play the second, it would have been a complete and total demolition of Pats.

Ahh the home team never fail to Disappoint.

Rooting for the Falcons, Braves, Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Tech, two different NHL hockey teams that ultimately moved out of the city....... is a chore. (I didn't list the Hawks, I hate basketball therefore I don't watch or root for anyone.) Atlanta is the worst sports town in America. At least this time I knew the outcome even before it happened. Even when they were up at halftime, I turned to my wife and said, "This is the beginning of the implosion." I contend it could have been anyone else and the outcome would have been the same.

On another note, I am calling it the Arthur Blank curse. He came down from his box and stood on the sidelines in the 4th quarter. Pretty much every single time he has done that the Falcants have lost. Note to the owner: Stay your @$$ in your luxury box like the rest of them do.

They were so close, and then Ryan got sacked out of FG range. That's when the collapse really happened.

Had to be overconfidence in the defense. It looked similar to Seattle's 2013 defense (unsurprising with Dan Quinn as HC), but they got tired, and the offense didn't keep up their part of the deal.

Other teams take note: when you are ahead, KEEP PLAYING TO WIN.

They should have just kicked the field goal on 1st down. Why even take chances?

I can't stand the Pats, but I can't take away the amount of sheer will it took to score a TD and 2-point conversion on consecutive drives.

For the year, Atlanta's defense was ranked 25th in the league. Of the handful of teams they kept below 20 points, the only one that was any good was Denver. The Rams, 49ers, Chargers, Panthers, and Cardinals were all below .500. Falcons fans on twitter last night pointing out how "the defense really stepped up" the last four games of the year forget that three of those were against teams that combined for 12 wins ALL SEASON.

Giving up those points to New England was basically guaranteed.
