Fun as always, though as always I feel little bad for the teams that fall ever further behind as the season progresses.

One thing I think we're going to have to think about going forward is the CG stat, which has been on a downward slide ever since even before it got added as a scoring category for the league, and has really cratered the past couple of years:

It's now down to 53 games after being twice that just a couple of years ago. With a season roughly 26 weeks long, that means there's only two a week on average, which means it's going to be basically a coin toss win for a couple of participants every week. Of course CGs aren't evenly distributed among pitchers, but this year only eight pitchers had more than one CG and only two had more than two CGs (Kluber and Santana, with 5 each). And I wouldn't be surprised if those guys have fewer next year also, as total innings pitched by starters continues to decline (this year just 15 pitchers recorded 200 or more IP; just a decade ago, there were over 30, and in 1998 there were almost 60).

I had a lot of ties on the CG stat, and it was always because both of us had exactly 0. I'm in favor of swapping it out for something else, but i'm not sure what it'd be.

I'll admit that I added CG on a whim a few years ago, but that it appears to have lost any predictive capability. It's just that I'm enough of an old-time baseball watcher that I simply despise the sabermetrics categories.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

What are the other otpions? Maybe there's something that's not overly analytical that would be a good choice?

Just checked. Can't see the available categories once the season starts, so it'll have to wait until next year.

I don't think we need so many categories. I'd actually advocate dropping fielding percentage from the batters (which tends to be random, unless you can find infield- eligible outfielders and 1b), and calling it a wash.

I added FPCT at the same time I added CG, in an attempt to go back to "real" baseball stats, like when I played Strat-O-Matic.

Well I guess we could go the other way and scrap both CG and FPCT, because it tells you basically nothing. I've seen plenty of hits I would have scored as errors. It's at the whim of the official scorer.

Man the Astros kicked a ton of ass that series. It was fun to watch.

But what brings me back to this thread is that Marlins fans just really wanted was for the new ownership group to do better at not being a turd than Jeffrey Loria. Derek Jeter said, "hold my beer."
