Injuries seem especially bad this year. Also at QB, Carson Palmer, Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck, and Ryan Tannehill are out, too. At this point I'm basically just kicking back to see what storylines play out. (Are the Eagles for real? Will the Browns/49ers win games this season? Will ATL, DEN, or CAR snap to their senses and put on another SB run?) Otherwise I'm just looking for Chuck Pagano to (finally) get fired.

Injury rates are similar this year to the past two decades. What's unusual is that so many elite marquee players are injured.

The Cleveland Browns have changed quarterbacks again, but not because of injury. Here's a ranking of their 27 starting quarterbacks since 1999:

Been a good year for my Saints so far. This is why I don't pay much attention during the off-season and drafts. Makes the season a nice little surprise when things are going well, and I'm not cursing management's name for picking so and so or trading such and such when they're playing like crap. Really great to see Mark Ingram making some awesome plays, he had been stuck in a weird spot of not-fully-realized-potential for a while. Our defense is back to being competent which just makes me oh so happy.

That author is overrating several teams, IMO. The 49ers have real chances against the Seahawks (in-division), Jaguars (overrated overall, plus a late-season game), and the Rams (also overrated, plus in-division, plus late-season). The Browns could possibly beat the Jaguars (see above), the Packers (who are bad all-around without Rodgers), the Chargers (who lost to the Browns last year and have zero home field advantage), and anyone in the AFC North for divisional chances.

I will concede, however, that both of these teams have been bad for several years with little signs of improvement. The 49ers are on their 4th coach in as many years, and the Browns draft worse than chickens. Still, solid likelihood that each team wins at least one game, and no one should be surprised if they win more than that.

But both this time and the last time he had a long term injury, the team has been exposed as not just not being very good, but as being very very bad. If not for one really hot streak in the 2010 playoffs, Aaron Rodgers would rank up with JJ Watt in terms of a career wasted by an inept front office.

I'm going to give the 49ers a chance to pick up their first win of the season against the Giants this week. The G-men got pounded by the Rams last week. The Browns could get a win against the Packers, Ravens or Bears later in the season.

Basically agreed. I do think his receivers are solid, but the team is an absolute mess on defense.

The difference between Watt and Rodgers, of course, is that Aaron does have a ring from 2010. Deserves a couple more, but I don't see Watt getting a real chance unless he leaves Houston.

Week 10

Thursday Night Football, 11/9
Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals

Sunday, 11/12
Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears
Cleveland Browns at Detroit Lions
Pittsburgh Steelers at Indianapolis Colts
Los Angeles Chargers at Jacksonville Jaguars
New Orleans Saints at Buffalo Bills
New York Jets at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Minnesota Vikings at Washington Redskins
Cincinnati Bengals at Tennessee Titans
Houston Texans at Los Angeles Rams
Dallas Cowboys at Atlanta Falcons
New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers

Sunday Night Football
New England Patriots at Denver Broncos

Monday Night Football, 11/13
Miami Dolphins at Carolina Panthers

Detroit and Pittsburgh should have easy wins this week, but they are still must-wins. The Steelers are playing for home field during the postseason, and Detroit have a real chance at winning the NFC North if they can pass the Vikings. Denver have an important game, too. I still believe that their defense is solid, but that means very little when the offense can't put points on the board. This is Osweiler's best chance at cleaning up his reputation, so let's see if he can do it.

If you lose to an 0-9 team you get an 'F.' Ironically enough, "fired" starts with an F, which is what the Giants should do to Ben McAdoo after Sunday's disastrous performance. Although several players have insisted that the team hasn't given up on McAdoo, their play on the field seems to suggest otherwise.

49ers: A
C.J. Beathard channeled his inner-Joe Montana in this game and gave San Francisco his best performance of the season. The rookie quarterback finished 19 of 25 for 288 yards with two touchdowns for a 49ers offense that scored more points against the Giants (31) than they did in the past three weeks combined (30). If Beathard loses the starting job to Jimmy Garoppolo this week, he'll know that he went out on a high note.

Frankly, Mcadoo should lose his job just by how he (mis)handles the NY media. That's a storied franchise in a huge TV market, so being able to handle the media should be in the job description.

I saw a rumor that Mcadoo was going to get fired if he lost yesterday, but it appears that was just a hopeful rumor spread by Giants fans.

Still a must-win situation for the Lions (to steal the division) and Steelers (to get home field in playoffs). I've been saying that the Rams and Jaguars are frauds since Week 1, and I think one of them is going to be exposed this week, so I'm going with the Browns surprising everyone with their first win of the season (admittedly, this is a wild prediction).

The Browns did...okay. Not great, but not the stunning upset I was looking for. Week 11 did prove that the Eagles are super legit, though. Right now, they only have to worry about New Orleans and Minnesota, but that has more to do with home field advantage than actual threat. Philly has a complete package that they've been working on for several years.

Doof! Apparently I have travel brain from waking up at 3AM home time.

AFC West will probably go to the Chiefs. The Chargers got a freebie from the Bills being buffoons (which was partially intentional?), the Raiders have lost all of their promise from last year, and if you look closely at their losses, things aren't THAT surprising in KC. The Steelers are in contention for the #1 AFC seed, the Raiders are in the division, the Cowboys had a running game that week, and the Giants always win games that they should lose (with the opposite frequently being true, too).

If nothing else, the Chiefs are the only team with a combination of talent and high-mediocre coaching to make the playoffs (and lose in the first round).

The Cleveland Browns (0-11), San Francisco 49ers (1-10) and NY/NJ Giants (2-9) have been eliminated from the playoffs. The Philadelphia Eagles should clinch the NFC East this weekend.

To ensure that they tank the rest of the season for a high draft pick, and as a sign of the toxic situations that develop in losing franchises, the Giants have benched Eli Manning in favor of Geno Smith, bringing Eli's 13-year record of 210 consecutive games started (second-longest in NFL history for a QB) to an end.

Since the Giants have decided to move on from Eli Manning, one wonders why they didn't try to trade him to the Jacksonville Jaguars before the trade deadline.

I've felt that Chuck Pagano is #1 candidate for firing among HCs...until his point. Doing a full benching of Eli Manning is madness. They could at least nominally keep him the starter and more to a "QB council" to "develop talent" in the last few weeks of the season. That would be more fitting of their 2-time Super Bowl MVP.

Anyway...how about some playoff predictions?

AFC East: New England (obv.)
AFC North: Pittsburgh
AFC South: Doesn't matter, they're going to lose in the first round
AFC West: Kansas City
WC1: Baltimore
WC2: West #2

NFC East: Philadelphia
NFC North: Minnesota
NFC South: New Orleans
NFC West: Seattle
WC1: Carolina
WC2: LA

The realistic contenders to win the Super Bowl are New England, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Seattle, and the NFC South...yeah, I think NO has the experience, while Carolina and Atlanta have something to prove (if they make it). KC miiiiiiiight have a chance considering their Week 1 upset, but postseason in NE is a very different animal.

You should probably add the Chargers, Jaguars, Rams and Titans to your list of locks.

And now both the coach and the GM are gone, and Eli is back. What a train wreck. If they had wanted to bench Eli for a rookie who they wanted a look at since they were 1-10, I could see that. Benching him for Geno Effing Smith made 0 sense, and it cost Macadoo his job, as it should have. Ridiculous.
