Ah, the dark and dreary winter withdrawal nears its end. Thanks JAE.

Any bets on what are the odds of (or) how long until Kubica is promoted into a race seat?

Since Williams needs the cash its current drivers bring to the table (Stroll & Sirotkin essentially bought their rides), it's unlikely outside of injury.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

There are plenty of gambling houses offering those bets, but I'm not a gambling man.

Came here to post this news, you beat me to it :)

Excerpts from the F1 site:

Formula 1 fans will get commercial-free live streams of each race with multi language commentary. In addition, the service will provide exclusive access to all 20 driver on-board cameras throughout every race session. F1 TV Pro will have unique feeds not available on any other platform with the capability of multi-level personalisation.

Subscribers will be able to choose the content they view and how and when they access it. All of practice, qualifying and races, will be offered live, along with press conferences and pre and post-race interviews. Subscribers will be able to watch live races of the main support series, the FIA Formula 2 Championship, GP3 Series and Porsche Supercup, among others.

During the season, F1 TV will be made available in four different languages (English, French, German and Spanish) and will appear in nearly two dozen markets at launch (including Germany, France, USA, Mexico, Belgium, Austria, Hungary and much of Latin America). Access will initially be available through desktop and web, with mobile apps and TV apps being phased in on Amazon, Apple and Android, enabling users to watch on a range of different devices at no additional cost. Pricing for F1 TV Pro will be offered on a monthly basis of USD$8-$12, and annual rates will be priced according to market.

A less expensive, non-live subscription tier, F1 TV Access will provide live race timing data and radio commentary, as well as extended highlights of each session from the race weekend. It will also be underscored by unprecedented access to archive video content from the amazing historic archive owned by Formula 1. F1 TV Access will be available on a near-global basis at launch, to complement F1 TV Pro.

How about that Haas double DNF.

Up until then it was an impressive run for both of their cars. It looks as if the Haas chassis (Dallara) has made a major leap in performance. I firmly believe that Grosjean is a world champion caliber driver. This bodes well for him.

McLaren looked slow in practice and in qualifying. They started the race in 13th and 14th positions, but Alonso has gained 5 spots in the first 8 laps.

I'm not thrilled with ESPN/SkyTV's screaming excitement vs. NBCSN's more relaxed coverage from last year.

Vettel's ability to nurse his soft tires for more than 1½ times as many laps as Pirelli expected they would last was extremely impressive.

Also impressive was the Toro Rosso / Honda 4th place finish in what was just Pierre Gasly's 7th start in Formula 1. That was the best finish for a Honda engine in F1 since Rubens Barrichello finished 3rd at Silverstone in 2008. For Toro Rosso, the 4th place matches what Sainz did in Singapore last year, what Verstappen did twice in 2015 and what Vettel did in 2007 and 2008. The only higher finish in Toro Rosso history was Vettel's victory at Monza in 2008.

Results from Bahrain:
1 Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari
2 Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes
3 Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes
4 Pierre Gasly, Toro Rosso / Honda
5 Kevin Magnussen, Haas / Ferrari
6 Nico Hulkenberg, Renault
7 Fernando Alonso, McLaren / Renault
8 Stoffel Vandoorne, McLaren / Renault
9 Marcus Ericsson, Sauber / Ferrari
10 Esteban Ocon, Force India / Mercedes
11 Carlos Sainz Jr., Renault
12 Charles Leclerc, Sauber / Ferrari
13 Romain Grosjean, Haas / Ferrari
14 Lance Stroll, Williams / Mercedes
15 Sergey Sirotkin, Williams / Mercedes
16 Sergio Perez, Force India / Mercedes (dropped from 12th for passing Hartley on the formation lap)
17 Brendon Hartley, Toro Rosso / Honda (dropped from 13th for not reclaiming his spot on the formation lap)
DNF Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari
DNF Max Verstappen, Red Bull / Renault
DNF Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull / Renault

Constructors' standings after two races:
65 Ferrari
55 Mercedes
22 McLaren / Renault
20 Red Bull / Renault
15 Renault
12 Toro Rosso / Honda
10 Haas / Ferrari
2 Sauber / Ferrari
1 Force India / Mercedes
0 Williams / Mercedes

Re: Formula One 2018

Phenomenal work by Red Bull's mechanics and brilliant overtaking by Daniel Ricciardo were rewarded. After Ricciardo's Renault turbocharger let go in free practice 3, his mechanics built up the spare engine and installed it in the car in two hours, getting him out on the track with less than two minutes leeway at the end of the first round of qualifying. Ricciardo looked a little shaky on his one lap in that round, but he drove brilliantly from there on.

Red Bull's mechanics also deserve praise for successfully pitting both cars when the safety car came out. One wonders why Ferrari didn't bring in Kimi Raikkonen for a fresh set of soft tires at the same time. He was running in the same position on the track and could have benefited in the same way.

On the topic of the safety car: Pierre Gasly did not match the form that he showed finishing fourth in Bahrain last week. Rule number one for a young Formula 1 driver is to not crash into your team-mate. This week, his performance was ghastly.

Results from Shanghai:
https://www.fia.com/events/fia-formula- ... ormation-1
1 Daniel Ricciardo - Red Bull / Renault - 95.8s, 334 kph
2 Valtteri Bottas - Mercedes - 97.0s, 333 kph
3 Kimi Raikkonen - Ferrari - 96.5s, 344 kph (213.6 mph)
4 Lewis Hamilton - Mercedes - 96.9s, 320 kph
5 Max Verstappen - Red Bull / Renault - 96.2s, 336 kph - 10s penalty for wrecking Vettel
6 Nico Hulkenberg - Renault - 96.9s, 335 kph
7 Fernando Alonso - McLaren / Renault - 97.2s, 335 kph
8 Sebastian Vettel - Ferrari - 97.5s, 329 kph
9 Carlos Sainz Jr - Renault - 97.8s, 340 kph
10 Kevin Magnussen - Haas / Ferrari - 98.2s, 331 kph
11 Esteban Ocon - Force India / Mercedes - 98.0s, 340 kph

It's a rare event these days not to have a British or German flag on the podium.

Those Ricciardo overtakes were awesome. That one on Hamilton at the hairpin where he came from so far back had me screaming at the TV, thinking there was no way he would get it slowed down enough and turned in and was about to crash, but "Sometimes you’ve just got to lick the stamp and send it so there we go". The one on Bottas for the win, I was sure he pressed a magic "make my car thin" button to squeeze through. Fantastic show!

Ricciardo's late braking combined with Verstappen's multiple swerves were not so awesome for Red Bull in Baku.

Ricciardo gave Verstappen room every time Verstappen passed him.

Verstappen is a dangerous and unpredictable driver.

In document 46, the race stewards gave Verstappen a reprimand for causing the collision but noted that both drivers contributed and both apologized for their part.

I put that down as Verstappen's fault, he moved twice in the braking zone and it's something he has done before.

It's also the team's fault, as EndUser says Ricciardo gave Verstappen room every time he passed him, but Verstappen caused them to make contact twice before the final collision that took them both out. The team should have been on the radio and told Verstappen that he was over the line in his causing the contacts. The time they bumped front wheels was just inches off one loosing a front wing and the other getting a front puncture.

The instant analysis from SkyTV was that Verstappen’s antics provide a strong reason for Ricciardo to leave Red Bull. I’m not sure that I see why they would expect Max to be less likely to crash into hm if Danny were driving a red car. Verstappen certainly wasn't shy about crashing into Vettel at the previous race. Perhaps the performance difference would allow Ricciardo to quickly get clear of the hazard and drive away rather than having similar pace and position for most of a race.
