Sergio Perez sues to have Force India put into liquidation:
https://www.racefans.net/2018/07/27/per ... r-4m-debt/

Dieter Rencken and Keith Collantine, RaceFans.net wrote:
The Silverstone-based Force India Formula 1 team has been placed in administration and will continue to operate in the meantime. Sergio Perez’s legal team told the court on Wednesday that Force India “is or is likely to become unable to pay its debt” and its parent company “are unlikely to be able to provide financial support”, according to documents seen by RaceFans. He is seeking payment of over $4 million (£3 million). Appointing administrators ahead of the F1 summer break is intended to minimise disruption to the team, allow it to continue operating will give it the best chance of being able to repay its creditors. The application was also supported by the Daimler/Mercedes group, which Force India owes over €10.5 million (£9 million), and sponsor BWT. The latter alleges its sponsorship deal with Force India was in the form of a loan.”

Vija Mallya, in a letter to employees, wrote:
"Force India Formula One was placed into ‘administration’ today by the court based on a petition filed by none other than our driver Sergio Perez. Surprisingly BWT jumped in and claimed that their sponsorship amounts were loans which is ridiculous as our entire car is pink with BWT branding. So what does this actually mean. The administrator must secure creditor interests and find a viable financial solution going forward. Our holding company will work with the administrator to take the team out of administration or sell the team at the best possible price which the administrator is obliged to do in any case with a creditor vote where our holding company is by far the largest. The team keeps running and hopefully performing and both [deputy team principal] Bob [Fernley] and myself are in our positions."

Christian Horner quipped during this morning's practice that Red Bull would like to see it pour down rain during qualifying today and be blistering hot during tomorrow's race. He got his wish with the rain, but instead of letting Red Bull take pole position, his team fell way back on the speed charts compared to their practice times. Meanwhile, the Mercedes cars that looked twitchy and difficult to manage in the dry were suddenly smooth and fast in the wet.

After capitalising on wet conditions to qualify sixth on Saturday at the Hungaroring, Pierre Gasly passed Carlos Sainz Jr. on the opening lap to run fifth in the opening stages of the race. Gasly finished a comfortable sixth at the chequered flag, and was the only midfield driver not to get lapped by race winner Lewis Hamilton.

Gasly said he knew it was turning out to be a good race when he saw cars ahead of him getting shown blue flags to let him pass. "I think the first time that I saw blue flags for cars ahead of me, when I saw that, I was like: 'F***! It means I'm doing a good race!' Usually the blue flag is for me for the Ferrari or the Mercedes, so that was a pretty cool feeling. I'm quite shocked again to be able to get that P6. Last weekend in qualifying we got stuck in Q1, behind one Williams, and this weekend we lapped one of the Williams in the race."

The Lotus cars of that era were rather notoriously fragile. Stirling Moss, Alan Stacey, Mike Taylor, Jim Clark, Mike Spence, Bobby Marshman, Graham Hill, Jochen Rindt and Ronnie Peterson would probably have liked to have had safer cars.

That's a shocker.

With both Mercedes drivers already signed and Vettel likely exercising a veto against him at Ferrari, conventional wisdom was that Ricciardo had no upward moves available and would be stuck at Red Bull playing second fiddle to Verstappen. Instead, Danny decided to move down to Renault.

The question is how much of a hit (if any) RBR take by moving to a Honda PU, which seems to be roughly on par with/marginally better than the Renault PU, and with somewhat worse reliability.

I personally expect the gap between RBR and the midfield to narrow next year, and in such an environment, if Renault make a step forward with their car, it could very well be that Renault end up snapping at RBR's heels.

But hey, I was the guy who expected Force India to be best of the rest this season as well, so what do I know? :)

The key will be where Adrian Newey ends up. There were rumours that Renault made a very serious offer to him earlier in the year. Then nothing. But Dan may know something...

The Silverstone-based Force India team’s salvation was revealed on Tuesday after its administrators agreed to a deal with a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll, father of current Williams F1 driver Lance. That means the team has been returned to solvency, with all 405 jobs saved and “significant” funding guaranteed, plus a commitment to pay its creditors in full.

Wow, what a Q3 at Spa, with Force India in P3/P4 just days after emerging from administration (UK version of bankruptcy).

How anyone can take Eau Rouge/Radillon at 300+ kph in the rain is simply beyond me. Of all of the current F1 tracks, Spa is by far my favorite. I'd link a vid of Martin Brundle in his E-type going 'round the original track (it's all still there), but Sky has region-locked it out of the US.

Alonso's going to need flying lessons.

I'd like to see how many people are still against the halo.

It surely looked like the halo saved LeClerc’s head.

It’s interesting that Alonso noted that Grosjean received a race ban for a similar incident a few years ago. Hulkenberg got a meaningless time penalty for this race and a 10 grid place penalty at the next race. The stewards explained that the current points system on the superlicense exists to punish repeat offenders, so they should be considering each incident individually. In reality, there is still a lot of subjectivity in steward’s decisions.

If you want F1 to be safe then just cancel it.

I loved it when Vettel thought he had won pole - and then he was denied by Kimi. Sour grapes on behalf of Vettel - the man has no grace under pressure.

This was made all the more enjoyable because he lost the pole by the very method he tried to win it - he was getting a tow from Lewis. Kimi got a tow from both of them. Absolutely brilliant!

F1 would be immensely more entertaining if they got rid of the hybrid crap, DRS, and went back to manual transmissions. Let the driver become more relevant!

Not a Formula 1 car but just listen to Mika go through the (manual) gears. Mistakes and all!
