ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday morning wrote:Baylor head coach Mark Rhule declined the chance to interview for the Cleveland Browns' head coaching job.
Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam on Tuesday afternoon wrote:We fully recognized that our team did not meet its potential on or off the field and additional changes in leadership give us the best opportunity for success in the future.... Over the last 48 hours, we've had discussion with John about his role but could not come to an agreement on a position that would enable him to remain with the organization.
Tyler Sullivan, CBS Sports, wrote:Since arriving in 2017, Dorsey has played a major role in turning the Browns organization around and has made some strong moves constructing the roster. He went all-in on Baker Mayfield with the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, selected corner Denzel Ward with his other first-rounder and even snatched up star running back Nick Chubb later on in that draft. On top of those moves, Dorsey created a tremendous buzz around the league when he dealt for Odell Beckham Jr. in a trade with the Giants this offseason. Even his decision to sign running back Kareem Hunt, who has been a key member of the Browns offense upon his return from suspension, has come up aces.
Despite his success with some of his roster moves, the decision to put Freddie Kitchens in as the head coach does fall on Dorsey's shoulders.

Bengals: 4 head coaches, 1 GM
Jordan Raanan, ESPN, wrote:The Giants were willing to cut bait on a coach who endured a nine-game losing streak this season and went 9-23 in two seasons. Those losses, to their mind, are apparently more on Shurmur than Gettleman, who built the lacking-in-talent roster. The Giants have doubled down on the GM, much the same way Gettleman doubled and then tripled down on quarterback Eli Manning when he returned as general manager. We know how that one turned out, with the veteran quarterback lasting two games before being benched prior to Week 3. The Giants have made their fair share of mistakes over the past two years. You don't end up 5-11 and 4-12 in consecutive seasons by accident.
The Giants know some potential candidates could have a problem with Gettleman. He's old-school, isn't afraid to pat himself on the back and, as his track record shows, he sure knows how to alienate former players -- safety Landon Collins and receiver Odell Beckham Jr. are among the most recent examples. "I'm aware that that's a perception that's out there, but I don't have that concern because I think once they meet [Gettleman] and get to know him, that won't be an issue," Mara said of coaching candidates. They'd better hope Gettleman just doesn't mess it up, or the new coach might ultimately suffer the same fate as Shurmur.

Matt LaFleur, Green Bay Packers: 13-3 (.813), NFC North Title, First Round Bye
Kliff Kingsbury, Arizona Cardinals: 5-10-1 (.344), DNQ for playoffs
Bruce Arians, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 7-9 (.438), DNQ for playoffs
Freddie Kitchens, Cleveland Browns: 6-10 (.375), FIRED, DNQ for playoffs
Vic Fangio, Denver Broncos: 7-9 (.438), DNQ for playoffs
Adam Gase, New York Jets: 7-9 (.438), DNQ for playoffs
Zac Taylor, Cincinnati Bengals: 2-14 (.125), #1 Pick in the 2020 Draft
Brian Flores, Miami Dolphins: 5-11 (.313), DNQ for playoffs
ALL New Head Coaches: 52-75-1 (.410)
Minus Arians and Gase: 38-57-1 (.401)
So Arians and Gase still boosted the combined record of our new head coaches, but surges by Fangio and Flores balanced it out a bit more. Out of these 8 coaches, 5 improved their teams' record over 2018. Among the 3 teams who slipped, the Dolphins were trying to tank, the Bengals successfully tanked, and the Browns fired Freddie Kitchens. In 2018, two coaches made the playoffs (Nagy via NFC North title, Reich via Wild Card). While neither of those coaches returned in 2019, Mike Vrabel made his first appearance. And Pat Shurmur got fired this year.
Not to gloat about the Shurmur firing, but I had him on my "Should be a Hot Seat" take this time last year along with Ron Rivera. Shurmur for (incorrectly) blaming his problems on Eli Manning, which was proven when Jones did not magically fix the Giants, and Rivera for the continued slide of the Panthers. It does seem that new ownership broke that relationship on amicable terms, though. So that's nice.

Dorsey put all of his chips on the table when he brought in Kitchens against the wishes of some, and the latter performed so poorly he got both of them fired.
Tom Brady, the NFL's Michael Jordan, seems to be on the doorstep of his Washington Wizards phase.

But logically, they probably didn't need to move quickly since there are still plenty of options on the table. Out of five teams who let head coaches go, only one have hired for 2020, and that was a unique opportunity as Gruden and Rivera both got fired/let go mid-season.
Here's that perspective according to NFL.com.
NFL Assistant Up-Hires: Dennis Allen (DC-NO), Eric Bieniemy (OC-KC), Brian Daboll (OC-BUF), Joe Judge (ST-NE), Don Martindale (DC-BAL), Josh McDaniels (OC-NE), Kris Richard (DBacks-DAL), Greg Roman (OC-BAL), Robert Saleh (DC-SF), Kevin Stefanski (OC-MN)
College Up-Hires: Urban Meyer (HC-OSU), Matt Rhule (HC-Baylor), Joe Brady (coOC-LSU)
Former NFL HCs: Marvin Lewis (CIN), Mike McCarthy (GB)
And that's leaving recently-fired head coaches like Garrett and Shurmur off the table. I think Rivera is the only true candidate of those five. If any more of them return to NFL coaching, it would probably be as OC/DC/etc. (like Chuck Pagano did). The main point is the long list of candidates for 4 potential landing spots. Assume former Super Bowl champion Mike McCarthy wins one and there are only 3 spots left.
EDIT: Well that didn't take long.
