The whole idea of a freeze is just rather bizarre for any series without spec engines imo. Sucks if your powerplant's not quite up to someone else's now...

Pricing/availability regulations might be reasonable, but locking into the same engine for years at a time is pretty crazy. Why not just fix a reasonably thorough set of performance requirements and let refinement continue?
