NFL 2011/2012 - Week 1

Thu Sep 08, 2011 2:43 pm

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOOOOTBAAAAAAAAALL!!!!!!!!

Season is already starting off in turmoil. No Peyton Manning to start the season.

Hope everyone has their rosters ready. Victorious Secret stole Drew Brees from me this year. . . .ahh well . . . . . hope everyone has a good time this year.

Here we go:

Thursday, September 8th
New Orleans vs. Green Bay - I hope this is a good game.

Sunday, September 11th
Pittsburgh @ Baltimore
Atlanta @ Chicago
Cincinnati @ Cleveland - battle for Ohio
Indy @ Houston - Indy 0-1 . . . . .wow!!
Tennessee @ Jacksonville - No Young means no drama
Buffalo @ Kansas City - Buffalo just needs to find a QB and a defense.
Philly @ St. Louis - My upset pick of the week.
Detroit @ Tampa Bay
Carolina @ Arizona - it'll be stinkin' hot
Minnessota @ San Diego
Seattle @ San Fran
NYG @ Washington
Dallas @ NYJ - sucks to be Dallas after being rated as the most valuable team, just to get lambasted on the opening weekend.

Monday, September 12th
New England @ Miami - at least the Patriots SHOULD win, but it is Miami.
Oakland @ Denver - Broncos has isues and Tebow IS NOT the answer.

Alright people . . . . .Let's get this party started!!!
. . . this is the digital projection of your mental self. . . .

Start? He's done for the year (or should be if he's smart about it).

You're is asking about picks for a pool. OTOH, this is just a general thread about week 1.

Speaking of which, pretty good game to start the season last night. Right down to the last play, a lot of back and forth, even if GB had the lead through the whole game. Not sure how much I'll watch during the day Sunday, but I'll watch the Dallas@NY game that night.

Regardless, the two threads are extremely similar and it wouldn't be irrational to merge them.

Nope. It WOULD have been general only if the OP didn't BOLD each team that he is hoping to win. That in itself made it personal and very similar to my thread.

What would be the point in having 2,000 threads on each individual's picks for the same sport, the same week? None.

This is just the way it's worked out over the years and we're used to it. No right, no wrong, just habit.

The difference is I've been doing this since we started the fantasy football league here in 2004.

I may make picks, but it also serves as a reminder for those who visit TR mostly and may forget to update their rosters - this kind of competition is boring if there are holes in people's rosters.

I know hey . . . . . .

And out of all that time, I finally made it to the big time last year. Every other year I was bottom of the barrel. . . .which is where I will probably be this year too. I am scared of starting Big Ben and my back up is Kobb.

Ugh, every time I even think about football I get all pissed off all over again about Big Ben just throwing away the Super Bowl. Grr!

Will try to channel that negative energy into enthusiasm for this season. WE MUST HAVE OUR REVENGE. And the best way to do that is to remind those chronically impudent Ravens of who's where in the NFL pecking order.

Sunday, September 11th
Pittsburgh @ Baltimore - DIE DIE DIE
Atlanta @ Chicago
Cincinnati @ Cleveland - No contest. Cincy is going to be terrible this year.
Indy @ Houston - No Manning No Win.
Tennessee @ Jacksonville - Luke who?
Buffalo @ Kansas City - No, the Bills aren't going be any good, either.
Philly @ St. Louis - Could go either way but I'll play it safe
Detroit @ Tampa Bay - Could this be the year?
Carolina @ Arizona
Minnessota @ San Diego - SD's special teams aren't going to ruin things this year.
Seattle @ San Fran - could go either way too
NYG @ Washington
Dallas @ NYJ - probably

Monday, September 12th
New England @ Miami - I would so love to be wrong on this one.
Oakland @ Denver

Jacksonville is trying to prove that they don't need David Garrard as long as they have MJD.

I picked a whopping 6 right this weekend. . . . . . .6!!!! What the hell is that about. Could Big Ben suck any bigger balls than that showing? Could Miami? I understand the Colt's dilemma - Kerry Collins can't take anyone to any playoffs, so they're out this year . . . .but the rest of these teams had what excuse again????

Ha! So even a n00b like myself beat ya! I picked 12 (win), and lost 8. The winner of our "week 1" pool had 16W-4L.

Yeah, what a week. I fared slightly better at 8/15 but man. And I'm not surprised that my Steelers lost - I knew it would be a tough game. But the worst blowout in years was not expected. If this isn't some kind of aberration this will be a long season.

Kind of confused here... where are you getting those extra 4 games from?

gleek probably fails at counting. That, and he likely can't tell a screen pass from a screen door. It enrages me no end that people like gleek 1) play in office pools and 2) win them with alarming regularity. I was in a college bowl pool once that was won by a woman who made her picks based on which mascot she thought would win in a fight. :-?

Isn't that how Mandy from Human Resources always has the best March bracket?

Not quite. It's more simplistic then you think. I went off of someone's suggestion of the Yahoo! Sports NFL pick'em website and literally team for team picked what they picked. Period. No rocket science or random guessing required. I didn't win my office pool, but it did get me 12 winning teams and only 8 losers. Better then most I guess?

And this: screen pass vs screen door.

Gleek - there are 32 NFL teams - hence 16 matchups each week :D

Stiffie - I was one of those people several years ago - remember? 8) There's a chica here at work that lets her dog pick the matchups each week, somehow - and she has one mutliple times.

If you look at the list from the other thread, there were several college games in the pool.

Yeah no one likes the fact this pool includes 4 college games each week. .WHY did they make it like that for?! Couldn't they just keep it simple with ALL nfl teams! geez
