Really? Shagging fly balls in BP like he's done his entire career as an exercise?

I knew he was reaching the end of his career but going out like this is simply wrong.

Andy, you've got a lot of CGs to win this year.

He says he'll be back, though obviously not this year. He'll be 43...is that a reasonable expectation? I know he's a total beast of a 42-year-old, but man.

Jamie Moyer is starting for the Rockies this year. He had Tommy John almost 2 years ago. You can do anything you put your mind too. I'm not sure which leg it was, but as long as its even 75-80% of what it was, he should be fine. Not a WHOLE lot of kneed strength needed to pitch.

It was his right knee and he's a righty, so it's his drive leg.

I believe Moyer, Mariano, and Omar Vizquel are the last players left who were born in the '60s and debuted in the 1980s. These guys are already freaks in terms of their durability (and determination), so there's not a lot to go on when trying to predict how they'd recover from surgery or function afterwards. Lots of people gave low odds that Moyer would make it back to baseball after his TJ surgery and yet here he is (Moyer and Tommy John actually had overlapping careers, though they never faced each other AFIK).

I don't think you can really compare Rivera and Moyer as pitchers. Moyer relies on throwing slow stuff and letting his defense work. He's been league average for all eternity...not sure how he got picked up by the Rockies. Rivera strikes out right at a batter an inning and throws hard.

They're also two different people. Who's to say Rivera heals like Moyer (apparently) has?

edit: Uber, Rivera debuted in 1995. Baseball Reference says he entered the minors in 1990. Though you're probably counting his Cuba years, I just can't find when he would have started there. In 1990 he was 21. He's relatively old, no denying that.
