[Solved] Should I get 512GB Sata SSD or 256GB PCI NVMe?

Tue Mar 06, 2018 2:04 am

Hello!

What would you recommend for mostly Gaming/Non-HDD intensive work use PC, 512GB Sata SSD or 256GB PCI NVMe ?
Am I going to see any real world use benefits from NVMe, is it worth less space?

I'm considering between:
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III
Crucial MX500 500GB
Samsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe

My system is:
i5-6500|16GB Ram|GTX 1070 and I have MB with M.2 support.

Thanks!

Bigger SATA drive for sure, you won't notice any gains from NVMe in gaming.

Source: recently moved off my Steam library from a 250 GB 960 EVO (which is now my OS+apps drive) to a 1050 GB Crucial MX300 and noticed no difference whatsoever

I second getting the larger SSD as well. Games do take up lots of space these days.

Thanks!
I got the Crucial MX 500 - 500GB.
I guess even if I have to upgrade to NVMe at some point for some reason, extra 500GB ssd will not hurt and NVMe will cost less.

Good choice, although I would have gotten the 1TB due to the size of modern games. I have two 1TB Crucial M500 SSDs and never had any trouble with them during the five years I had them.
