Hi all! New here, decided to purchase a build!

Fri Aug 10, 2018 12:20 am

Hey all.

I'm new here, but I've coasted the forums for a bit and decided to try one of the builds located in The Tech Report System Guide: Summer 2018 edition. The sweet spot build! I'll be throwing some pictures of the process as the parts come in. Hopefully it will be soon! Thank you all so much.

I can't take any credit for the system Guide, but you're welcome, and welcome!

Good luck! I myself am also in the planning stages of a CPU/platform upgrade myself. And nice to meet you too, by the way.

Heh. Thanks all. Placed the order and most of the items will arrive Tuesday, however, the case was out of stock temporarily. They were out of Windows 10 O.S. too, the only options available had negative reviews stating most of the window keys were invalid or already in use. I could always go and pick it up somewhere I suppose.

Edit: PSU died last night. Luckily, the parts for the new pc will arrive Wednesday.

Oh! Thanks Just! You guys are awesome. I'm impatiently awaiting the delivery of my first set of parts, sadly I cant build until tomorrow, since the case/ram will arrive tomorrow. To add to said suffering, I have a 16 hour shift to pull. Woe is me!

Spent all night last night building the PC *Shes a freakin' beauty* but sadly I had to contact Noctua regarding the AM4 socket, for an upgraded mounting kit because it's incompatible with whats in the box atm. I'm using the stock cooler that came with the Ryzen and the computer is so quiet, I can't hear ANYTHING. I'm going to take some pictures shortly for you guys.

Heh. Yeah, after years of supplying craptastic whiny little stock HSFs, AMD really does seem to have stepped up their game. This is a significant development, given that a decent aftermarket cooling solution can add a non-trivial amount to the cost of a system.

It's nice all together honestly. I need to tidy up the cable management before I show pictures. Oh, btw? I downloaded the APP Central for Aorus. Oh. My. God. Don't do it, it's a trap. My system was PERFECT before I updated the app, along with the BIOS and the other programs. Windows started going haywire, artifacts all over the screen. Windows wouldn't even fully load a few times. I went into panic mode, got to a safe "spot" so to speak and uninstalled it all. Back stable, quiet, and I'm gaming and loving every minute. Even got around to installing some image editing software etc for the misses and shes happy as well. Money well spent. Regarding Noctua, could be around 2 weeks before I see the update package. Oh well, stock cooler is fine atm. *The misses really wants to see the Noctua cooler installed.*

Yeah, mobo vendor custom tweak tools and/or drivers are generally bad news. For Windows, it's vanilla reference drivers (from the various component vendors' web sites) all the way, as far as I'm concerned. For Linux, stock drivers supplied with your distro's latest kernel if possible, or go poking around for alternatives if things go sideways with the stock drivers.

I have definitely learned my lesson. Noctua messages me earlier. 6 to 10 days for delivery of the cooler upgrade.

[quote="DPete27"]I bookmarked this page when another gerbil recommended it.

That was me I think. Never had a problem with software from the site...and I've had sellers there for anti-virus upgrade my license from one year to three at no extra cost. Also has had great Office 2016 Pro deals.

Hi all.

Update on the PC. Noctua contacted me, my bracket upgrade has been sent. It should be here in about two weeks, seeing as it's being shipped from overseas. Once it's here and installed, I'm going to post some pictures. The PC is an absolute dream! Thank you all for what you do <3.
