So to recap, the takeaways are:

  • You need to have a GPU installed to get video out
  • You need to update your BIOS to a version that supports 3000 series chips
  • And to do that, you'll need to either get a loaner 2000 series chip or RMA the motherboard for one with the updated BIOS pre-installed

As an aside, I was just noticing that all of Microcenter's Ryzen 3000 bundles include an X570 motherboard. Looks like they're trying to sidestep this issue by steering people away from boards that might have an incompatible BIOS.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

How do I go about returning and getting a different motherboard as a replacement from Newegg? I have never done it before with them.

I believe that I might rather deal with AMD than with Newegg, but at the top right of the Newegg page, select "Customer Service" and "Return an Item" on the drop-down.

It would be easier to work with AMD than NewEgg? I am interested in what ever solution is the least complicate.

Okay, I just found this page on AMD's site regarding this issue. https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100

That was the link that I provided on page two. At least two of our forum members used the AMD loaner offer when Ryzen 2000 CPUs came out. Dealing with outdated BIOS versions is a drawback of supporting the same CPU socket for so many processor generations.

Darn it, I missed that link somehow. Thank you for all the help. I will review those options and get back to you when I am done working with support.

Okay everyone, I received the motherboard back from ASRock after having sending it to them RMA. I have the system reassembled and the system ran the BIOS and booted up to Windows. However Windows does not seem to be recognizing my USB connections (keyboard, mouse, and internet adapter), although the keyboard and mouse do work in BIOS so the physical connections are not an issue. I have managed to get an old keyboard with a PS/2 connection to work in windows so if someone could walk me through getting my mouse and internet adapter recognized I should then be able to work out the rest from there.

Try the ASRock driver disk.

Ran the "Drivers and Software" install, my drivers appear to have installed as my mouse started working, and the system has now rebooted and seems to be running correctly. Oddly when I attempted to it run the disk earlier today I got nothing. Thanks for all the help.

One last question, while I was waiting for the board to come back I had the GPU mounted on my old motherboard and it caused my UPS ES 750 to start beeping like mad when playing a higher resource game. According to what I read it was because the new GPU was causing the UPS to overload even though is is supposed to be for a 750 watt power supply and I have a 650 which it should be more than enough for. What kind of UPS do I need to give me fifteen minutes of backup power while still being able to handle the load from this CPU and GPU?

Um, Mr. Fusion?? UPS specs don't normally envision hard-core gaming when estimating reserve power times.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

A few things to consider on the UPS issue:

1. The UPS rating is the amount of power the UPS can supply at line voltage. The PSU rating is the amount of power it can supply to the motherboard and GPU at 12/5/3.3 volts. Any inefficiencies in the PSU itself are on top of that. So if you're pushing the PSU close to its limit, you need a UPS that is over-sized (relative to PSU) to account for PSU conversion (in)efficiency.

2. Don't forget to count the power draw of your monitor and any other externally powered peripherals you have plugged into the UPS. If you want to ride out power glitches while playing online, you also need to include any network switches/routers and your broadband modem!

3. A consumer UPS running close to its limit typically has just enough battery capacity to give you time to save your work and shut the system down (~5 minutes). You will want to measure the actual power draw of everything under load, and scale that up accordingly if you want 15 minutes of run time. Get a Kill-A-Watt (or similar) if you don't have one already.

4. Active PFC PSUs and older UPSses don't always play nice together. If you've got active PFC, you may need a UPS with a "true sinewave" output and/or need to over-provision the UPS to ensure it continues to operate properly when on battery power.

5. Modern file systems are reasonably robust against unexpected power cuts. Unless you're doing mission critical (i.e. paying) work on this system or are prone to frequent outages/brownouts, I wouldn't sweat the UPS too much.

Hope that helps!

UPSes come in all sizes, up to ones large enough to power the entire city of Fairbanks, Alaska. However, as just brew it! stated, consumer UPSes usually skimp on the duration of backup capacity. I'm using this one. It has plenty of power for my gaming PC and monitors, but don't expect more than five to seven minutes of gaming at 650+ watts. For just browsing the web, it'll last more than forty minutes. The manufacturer rates the capacity at two minutes at full load (900 watts) and eleven minutes at half-load (450 watts).

With a USB cable connected to the UPS, Windows will automatically put your desktop PC into battery saving mode at low battery and into hibernation when the UPS battery runs down to the critical level - it behaves just like a laptop in that regard.

This is a good size "consumer" UPS. If you really want 15 minutes at full load with your computer, screen, and router/modem, the unit will be the size of a large suitcase, and use batteries about the size of 12v car batteries, and prolly cost >$1000. Size your own...
