Source for system guides

Wed Aug 14, 2019 6:03 pm

What's a good source for system guides, like the ones Tech Report has, or used to have?

Just planning in case I have to change sources. :-(

TR's System Builders Anonymous forum is still not a bad place to get advice and comments on your PC build. PCPartPicker is a decent tool, but for many components, I still get better information by using the catalog search at Newegg.

It has been seven months since the last TR System Guide was published. With AMD's 3rd generation 7nm Ryzen CPUs, AMD's Navi 7nm Radeon RX 5700 graphics cards and even NVidia's refreshed Turing 12nm GeForce RTX 20x0 SUPER graphics cards all having arrived at the beginning of last month, I believe that this would be a very good time to update the system guide. It also seems like a good time to build a PC, unless you're willing to wait until next year for NVidia's 7nm Ampere GPUs to arrive or even longer for Intel's 10nm Ice Lake-S CPUs to finally arrive on the desktop

I agree. Hit up the SBA forum with your usage and budget and get personal personalized advice.
I never really liked build guides anyway. Because of the nature of the beast they never take sale pricing into account, so they're really just a general guide to a balanced build.
