Yes, that's a good approach too if you've got an existing half-decent machine and the money to spare. There's always sweet times to buy, when good new tech launches.
The NVIDIA 3080 looks nice for the performance (shame about the price and power consumption!), and I'm sure that the upcoming AMD CPUs will be too. Same as when a new-gen MacBook Pro or iPhone comes out, if you're in "maybe soon" mode then it makes sense to buy on the crest of the wave.
