Just wanted to run this by you guys...

Sat Dec 24, 2005 7:28 pm

I'm hoping the TR geniuses can help me. So I'm getting:

Antec Sonata II
AMD X2 4200+ (Manchester?)
eVGA 7800GT (470/1100) 256 MB
Corsair 2 x 1GB TWINX

I need suggestions for a motherboard--it has to have SLI, and I want to keep it under 150 bucks. I plan to do some easy overclocking. I would like to buy it all from newegg, or if you guys have a favorite online retailer you trust that doesn't charge sales tax in California, that would be awesome.

Would you guys suggest a better PSU or would the one that comes with the Antec case be good until I upgrade to SLI? There will only be 1 HDD, 1 DVD-rom, and one DVD+-RW drive.

Any suggestions would be more than welcome, and if you guys had a mini Opteron vs. X2 argument that would be fantastic--I'm still torn between the X2 4200+ and the Opteron, but I'm leaning toward the X2, obviously.

Thank you very much.

Well i have a 4200+ and a 7800GTX in my system . I am running this epox motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813123246 its the EP9npa+SLI . as far as overclocking goes my 4200+ will post as high as 2.9 but because of the huge amounts of heat it generates its impossible to keep cool .

the antec powersupply will probably get you by until you go sli . when you get sli you will need a new powersupply for sure .

Monarch is a good company that isn't in Cali, Right now they have the 4200+ for $400. They also have the opterons for a good price

Too bad they don't carry epox boards.

lots of overclocking options including an extra memory divider that most other boards, except the more expensive DFI boards, don't have.
