Need help deciding on a mid-range video card

Sat May 20, 2006 6:26 pm

I've decided to upgrade my 9800 pro, I've done some research and came up with these two video cards:

SAPPHIRE Radeon X800GTO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102609

and

SAPPHIRE 100158 Radeon X1600PRO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102679

I'm having alitte trouble determing which is superior, my gut is telling me the GTO but I'd like to make sure. Also, I'm neither attached to Sapphire nor ATI, I just ended up that way with a conicidence. If you could reccomend any other cards I would be appreciative. Only requirements are that it be under 170 dollars and its AGP, no PCIxpress for me yet, saving that for my next computer overhaul.

Edit: Oh just in case it matters, my relative system parts are a AMD64 3200+ and a gig of DDR400 RAM

Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

I don't think either of those is really worth an upgrade over a 9800 Pro...I'd just wait for the next full-system upgrade.
Core i7 920, 3x2GB Corsair DDR3 1600, 80GB X25-M, 1TB WD Caviar Black, MSI X58 Pro-E, Radeon 4890, Cooler Master iGreen 600, Antec P183, opticals

Well, Either wait for a Full upgrade or go with a 7600GS. the GTO is a nice card but to me it's not THAT much better than the 9800pro. the X1600 isn't too much better either.

I say wait a while.

There's a 7600GS on AGP?

Oh he want's AGP? oops  well um. wait for an all out upgrade then. if your still on S754 there are MANY S754 boards with PCI-e and even EPoX makes an SLI mobo for S754.
