FIRST RIG

Wed Jul 19, 2006 7:41 am

Hi im pretty new to building computers. I did some research and i think i know some decent hardware to pick out. I want to get a kinda high end pc since my summer job is paying nicely. It needs to be under $2000.

and im confused my proc. I've heard amd prices are being cut by 50% on the 25th, which will work out nicely, but im not sure if i should get the new intel proc when it comes out instead. The only problem is that i dont have a $1000 to spend on a proc.

so heres my new egg list so far, please leave comments about things im missing or suggestions :)

The warranted through the manufacturer only means that if you have to RMA it or get support, you just go straight to the manufacturer, which is AMD in this case.

A couple comments:
*That motherboard seems kinda expensive. Do you need all the wireless extra stuff, or do you just want something that works and that was the first one that popped up
*that RAM seems kinda expensive. I'd just go with some value RAM if I were you; like this one: $151 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145527
*some people have complained that that DVD burner can sometimes be noisy and not as reliable. I'd check out this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827106019
*those speakers don't seem quite right. They are expensive and the specs aren't that powerful. Have you heard them?

Only if you are getting the Core 2 Extreme X6800 that you need $1000. The E6600 and E6700 are somewhat reasonably priced, although if you are not willing to wait there will be some price gouging on the retailers' part. Hopefully there will be enough stock to not let it go out of hand.

What's the deal with super expensive SLI boards? Are you looking at SLI? If not, go for a single board, especially if you are going Intel then just get a P965 chipset board, a decent single GPU card, and call it a day.
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

thanks for the suggestions. Ill get that dvd burner instead and about the ram I heard that you have to get ddr2 800 to see any any speed difference with am2 then 939, do u know if thats true or not? yeah the speakers i just added when i picked a sound card, so ill do more research and get some better ones. With the motherboard i dont need any wireless stuff and i might not even get sli. Someone told me to get a nforce 590 mobo. Wats the diff between nforce 4, nforce 570, and nforce 590
