quick question...

Tue Aug 22, 2006 6:56 am

i just read that you need to get a slower RAM stick to get the system to post, if building a C2D system with DD2 800 RAM. is this always true?
if so, can someone explain how/why? i'm generally clueless about RAM speeds/voltages, so some explanations would be nifty-awesome :)

Basically every motherboard out know is defaulted at 1.8v for RAM, however all 800 RAM right now is at 2.1v and therefore can't run in these motherboards from the start. People use other DDR2 RAM in order to change the voltage for the RAM to 2.1v so they can use their 800 RAM.
Damn the torpedoes , full speed ahead.

It was true for me, but It will depend a lot more on the motherboard being able to set the voltage correctly. FWIW my ram was rated at 1.9v and the board is stock at 1.8 so it was very picky in my case. A bios flash fixed it but I needed to borrow a stick of drr2 667 from my work computer.

actually, i just noticed that the DQ6 isn't much more expensive and a better board all round... anyone got one of these to report whether it has the same problem?

ok i have heard that some ppl need to start up bc ram is at 2V+ and mobo is at 1.8V but there is enough time to change the default value of the mobo to 2.1v or what ever u need.
