So waddaya think about the Dell 2007WFP?

Sat Sep 30, 2006 12:44 am

What kind of panel is it? How does it stack up to other monitors for the same price? I'm looking at an acer 22incher for alil over three hundred but the .282
Dot pitch is scaring me off though. I like the bigger panel but it's a TN panel and I was wondering if the 2007WFP was a different beast altogether (Also looking at the Sceptre Naga III Gamer version).I currently have a 19 inch Viewsonic VX900T which is an aperture grill CRT monitor from 1997. Despite being almost ten years old it still handles 1600x1200 and looks okay. It's starting to lose colour depth, looks a lil washed out and the grill wires are becoming VERY apparent on white screens. Another question is how noticable will the resolution loss from 1600x1200 to 1680x1050 be? Is it going to be THAT bad or even noticable at all? Also will I really miss the two extra inches of screen real estate if I don't get the 22"? And if I do get the 20" will it be noticably bigger than my CRT (or smaller even?) Thanks for the help in advance and let me know as I am prolly going to make the purchase next week.

It's been a great moniter for me so far, no problems what so ever. I think it'll be a great jump from being on a 19 inch CRT. Remember, that when its a 19inch CRT, you dont actually get all of that 19 inches because of not so perfect geometry. Going to a 20.1inch LCD will make a difference, i dont think you'll miss the extra 2 inches, its a pay off for better quality panel overall.

I paid 400 for mine, but i also bought it from costco online, so i always have their great lifetime return policy. :P
Sixty percent of the time, it works every time.

Good monitor, I wouldn't mind owning another 1680x1050 monitor if I had the money.

The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

Did you click on the link to my other post listing most of Dell's panel types?

FYI the 2007WFP is S-IPS.

There is bound to be some overdrive (or similar tech) to achieve "gamer acceptable" response times. The initial problems of the WFP were due to the wrong image adjustment firmware routines and made it band like crazy. In this case the industry catering to gamers and movie buffs are destroying colour accuracy on LCD monitors. :-? :x

What about this one? That's a TN?
5ms looks suspiciously like a TN panel. A quick search turned up nothing yet. Fast panels like these are almost always 5ms (for now), although the viewing angle is a little too large for TN panels.

I have both the 2007WFP & the Sceptre Naga. The Sceptre, though a good deal when I bought it, is now hooked up to my 10 year old daughter's computer, while the Dell is still hooked up to one of the computers I use.

I recomend the Dell over the Sceptre....but suggest stepping up to the 2405FPW. :D

The Naga is like 20ms with a PVA panel afaik. What did you not like about the Sceptre and prefer the Dell?

The image is not as sharp. The Sceptre looks washed out in comparrison....I don't know how else to describe it.

You may have a problem with VA panels especially at an angle, or the driver circuits in the Sceptre really sucked. It's a different monitor than the one linked though, it was the X20WC-Gamer that was mentioned a few posts back.

Yeah, I'm really eyeing that Sceptre ... about 100 bucks less than the Dell (though dell offering is for 350 with free three day for a limited time). Stepping up to the 24" would be fantastik but unless you wanna give me the extra three hundred dollars than I'm outta luck.

For the 2407 or the 2007?

Also will my resolution loss from 1600 x 1200 to 1680 x 1050 be very noticable? I'm used to gaming at 1600 x 1200 on a 4:3 screen so does that mean that on a 16:10 itt'll look more like 1280 x 1024?

Okay ... what's with Dell's advanced exchange program? Does that mean that I could buy the monitor and if I dun like it I could buy a better one for the difference between the two?

I believe that means if you find a problem and they are willing to do a replacement, they send you a new unit first and then you return the defective one. One of the good things about Dell. I went through 3 2005FPW's with them during the 21-day satisfaction guarantee period.
