Some questions about the Dell Dimension 9200

Wed Oct 04, 2006 1:26 am

Hi all, I'm looking for a computer that will primarily be used for school and gaming. I've got my eye on the following Dell Dimension 9200:
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/ ... 2min&s=bsd

Core 2 Duo E6400
1 GB DDR2 533
Radeon X1300 Pro
80 GB SATA HD
48x CD-RW/DVD-ROM
No monitor

XP Home
Microsoft Works

1 yr warranty

Due to some discounts being offered by Dell, this computer comes out to be $664 (including shipping) until 11pm CST on October 4 (tomorrow). I just had a couple of questions.

1. How does this system look overall? Are there any better deals elsewhere that might be more appropriate?
2. Is it worth springing an extra $150 for a GeForce 7900 GS?
3. Any idea why the estimated ship date isn't for another month (November 3)?

Thanks in advance!

if you're going to game at all, get the 7900GS. that X1300 is going to make you cry.

edit: have you considered pricing the parts out on newegg to see if you can do better? that price doesn't seem too remarkable given the specs and lack of a monitor.

Deffinetly go up to the 7900GS, and deffinetly build it youself, or the hungry gerbils will find where you live and steal your cheese.
Damn the torpedoes , full speed ahead.

AMD X2 4200+, Asus A8N-E, 3GBs of RAM, 7900GS
